A method of culturing cells including: dividing a culture area into a center area and a plurality of peripheral areas, and designating the center area and the plurality of peripheral areas as measurement positions; calculating: a confluent rate at each of the measurement positions designated; and an average confluent rate which is an average of sum of the confluent rates at the measurement positions designated, the confluent rate being defined as a proportion of an area occupied by cells in a designated area; and determining a timing to perform a subculture of the cells, based on the confluent rate, wherein the determining of the timing further includes determining when the average confluent rate is smaller than a first threshold value, the confluent rate of the center area is larger than a second threshold value, and the second threshold value is larger than the first threshold value.

An apparatus for culturing cells of the present invention is an apparatus for culturing cells using a culture medium in a culture vessel. The apparatus includes: pump connected to pipet held by first holder; first shifter configured to shift first holder; second holder configured to hold culture vessel; second shifter configured to grip and shift culture vessel; and controller. Controller is programmed to, when pipet draws a liquid in culture vessel or discharges a liquid into culture vessel, control second shifter to translationally shift lid of culture vessel in a horizontal direction.

Apparatus for culturing cells

An apparatus for culturing cells of the present disclosure includes: a cabinet that has a main surface and a side surface, the main surface having a window; a main surface aspiration port disposed at the main surface of the cabinet; and a side surface aspiration port disposed at the side surface of the cabinet. In the cross section of the cabinet taken along the horizontal direction, a first vessel supplying part for supplying a first vessel is disposed at a midportion of the cabinet, and a second vessel supplying part for supplying a second vessel is disposed at an inner peripheral portion of the cabinet. The first vessel supplying part has a first lid capable of entirely covering the first vessel supplying part. The first vessel has no lid. The second vessel supplying part has no lid. The second vessel has a second lid.

An apparatus for culturing cells using a culture medium, including: a replacer that replaces the culture medium in a culture vessel held by a holder; a measurer that measures a pH of the culture medium in the culture vessel; and an instructor that instructs the replacer to replace the culture medium in the culture vessel, wherein the instructor gives an instruction when the pH measured by the measurer is less than a predetermined pH threshold at a first replacement of the culture medium, and gives an instruction when the pH measured by the measurer is less than the predetermined pH threshold and the interval is less than an interval of a previous replacement of the culture medium at second and subsequent replacements of the culture medium.
