In an advanced-cruise-assist highway system, an AHS center facility, which is an upper facility for on-road facilities, periodically receives diagnostic information from the on-road facilities, and when it is determined that any on-road facility is in the faulty state, communicates the information that the on-road facility is in the faulty state to on-road facilities upstream from the faulty on-road facility, and the on-road facilities having received the information on the fault in the downstream on-road facility communicates the information that the downstream on-road facility is in the faulty state via a road-to-vehicle communication facility to AHS vehicles having the possibility of entering a zone under control by the faulty on-road facility. Further the information that the downstream on-road facility is in the faulty state is displayed on information board which can be recognize by vehicles having the possibility of entering a zone under control by the faulty on-road facility.

A method and device for pattern processing whereby accurate and effective processing can be carried out as a user desires. A pattern processing device of this invention comprises an information input/output device, an information processing device, and a data storage device; wherein the information processing device comprises pattern processing means, significance describing means, characteristic information input means, characteristic information extraction means, characteristic information describing means, and pattern processing means making reference to characteristic information. Intentions of a user or characteristics of pattern elements or sets of pattern elements are described and added to the pattern data so that this characteristic information can be referred to when pattern data processing is carried out. Thus, it is possible to make accurate representation of pattern data in a computer, and it is also possible to generate or convert patterns as the user desires.

A curved surface generated on a closed curve is expressed by an equation of a film having a physical property. The film is considered as a virtual elastic film generated on the closed curve. In order to generate a display of a surface, an equation or equations are generated corresponding to all or parts of the surface. The equation or equations represent the surface as a physical membrane. Boundary conditions of the surface can thus be specified, and the equation solved using the boundary conditions as outer constraints to generate a display of the surface. A set of points within the boundary of the surface may be specified, which then define inner constraints for the solution of the equation. Where parts of the surface join at a point or line, a further equation can be generated, which further equation represents the area around the join as a physical membrane. Solution of that equation, preserving the boundary of the area around the join, provides a smooth transition between the parts of the surface.

The present invention is to output the geometric form characteristic, such as the principal curvature of a geometric model constituted in a computer to meet an image of a user to easily modify the form. In order to achieve the foregoing object, there is suggested an apparatus for displaying a geometric form characteristic that includes a form display device for displaying, on a display device such as a CRT, a geometric model input in the computer, a position instruction device for indicating, on the display screen, an arbitrary point on the displayed form by using a pointing device such as a mouse, a geometric form characteristic calculating device for calculating the geometric form characteristic at the arbitrarily indicated point, and a geometric form characteristic display device for displaying the calculated geometric form characteristic in the form of a graph. According to the present invention, a form that meets the image of a user, such as a concave, convex and the plane portion can be displayed as the user directly touches the form using a mouse.

Method and apparatus for displaying altitude of form characteristics

A pattern processing method is provided which performs the following steps with regard to a region in an n-dimensional space: providing a procedure (relative expression procedure) for generating relative positional data of any desired point in the n-dimensional space with respect to the region by the use of a series of data determining the region (the relative positional data including data indicating whether the point is inside or outside the region, the distance from the point to the boundary of the region, etc.), thereby identifying the region with the procedure, and thus unitarily determining the region; generating a relative expression procedure for a new region from the relative expression procedure(s) of one or more regions given the procedures, the relative expression procedure for the new region being obtained by configurationally processing and editing the one or more relatively expressed regions, thereby relatively expressing the new region; and expressing configurational characteristics of each relatively expressed region itself by the use of the relative expression procedure of the region. Thus, the processing of patterns in an n-dimenaional space can be unitarily effected on the basis of the one and only concept, that is, the relative expression procedures, without deponding upon the configuration of each particular region as being an object of processing so that the pattern processing method itself is simplified.
