The light-resistance of aromatic polyamide fibers can be improved by heat-treating the aromatic polyamide fibers in the presence of urea and thiourea. The improvement in the light-resistance is enhanced by using aromatic polyamide fibers having an ultraviolet absorber incorporated therein.

Method for improving light-resistance of aromatic polyamide fibers

A cut pile fabric such as a velvet composed of a synthetic fiber pile having deep color shade and smooth touch on its pile surface, the piles thereof having non-mushroom shaped cut ends at their tip portions, defined by the equation d.sub.1 /d.sub.2 .ltoreq.1.3, where d.sub.1 is the maximum diameter of the tip portion and d.sub.2 is a diameter of the remaining portion of the piles. The pile fabric is obtained by utilizing, as a pile yarn, a synthetic yarn having a breakage strength of less than 2.8 g/De, a primary yielding strength of more than 1.2 g/De, a breakage elongation of less than 50%, and a primary yielding elongation of less than 10%. Such synthetic yarn can advantageously be prepared by a crystallization drawing process.

Apparatus for preparing a suede-like raised woven or knitted fabric

A dyed polyester fiber composite structure having an enhanced brilliance and/or color depth, comprises (A) a dyed porous polyester fiber which has been produced (1) by preparing a polyester resin from a dicarboxylic acid component and a glycol component in the presence of a pore-forming agent containing 0.3 to 3 molar % of at least one phosphorus compound based on the molar amount of the dicarboxylic acid component, (2) by converting the polyester resin to a polyester fiber in which fine particles of the pore-forming agent are dispersed, by treating the polyester fiber with an aqueous alkali solution so that at least 2% of the weight of the fiber is removed and a number of fine pores are formed in the fiber and (4) by dyeing the porous polyester fiber; and (B) a coating layer on the peripheral surface of the dyed porous polyester fiber, comprising a polymeric material having a smaller refractive index than that of the porous polyester fiber.

A process for the preparation of a woven fabric of low air permeability which comprises preparing a woven fabric by use of a composite fiber of a splitting and severing type, which consists of polyester and polyamide and produces extremely fine fibers of 0.001 to 0.8 denier size, as a warp and/or a weft; treating thus obtained woven fabric by use of an aqueous emulsion of a swelling agent for polyester and nylon under the conditions where nylon is mainly allowed to swell and then shrink; scouring and dyeing the woven fabric; and after calendering the woven fabric with the use of heated rollers rotated under pressure.

Process for the preparation of woven fabrics of low air permeability

A shaped synthetic polymer article having an enhanced desired function is prepared by preparing a shaped synthetic polymer article in which at least the peripheral surface portion of said article contains 0.1% or more, based on the weight of said shaped article, of a compound (A) having, per molecule thereof, at least one unsaturated radical of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 respectively denote, independently from each other, a hydrogen atom or an organic radical, and; by copolymerizing the compound (A) contained in the shaped article, with at least one compound (B) which has, per molecule thereof, at least one unsaturated radical of the above-mentioned formula (I) and at least one other functional radical capable of imparting a desired function to the shaped article.

Process for durably modifying a shaped synthetic polymer article

A process for the preparation of leatherlike sheet materials which comprises: preparing hollow composite fibers, each composed of 32 to 72 alternately arranged segments of polyester or polyamide and polystyrene which are mutually adhered side-by-side and encompass a hollow space, and which extend along the longitudinal axis of the fiber to form a tubular body, the hollow composite fiber having a denier of 1 to 20, and each segment having a denier of 0.01 to 0.5; forming a fabric using thus prepared hollow composite fibers; removing the polystyrene segments with a solvent thereof from the hollow composite fibers; and applying an elastic polymer to the fabric. The resultant leatherlike sheet materials have fine touch, excellent repulsive elasticity and excellent wrinkle resistance similar to natural suede. The hollow ratio (ratio by volume of the hollow space to the sum of the volume of the polyester or polyamide segments, the polystyrene segments and the hollow space) is 2-15%.

Process for the preparation of leatherlike sheet materials

A synthetic fur closely resembling a natural fur comprises relatively long and thick guard hair-like raised synthetic fibers, each having a transverse cross-section wherein at least one constricted part is formed, and underfur-like raised synthetic fibers, each having a rate of dissolution in a solvent or of hydrolysis with a hydrolyzing agent higher than that of said guard hair-like raised fibers, and a length and fineness less than those of said guard hair-like raised fibers. The synthetic fur is prepared by applying a viscous treating liquid containing a solvent or hydrolyzing agent to a raised surface of a fabric comprising relatively thick raised synthetic fibers, each having a transverse cross-section wherein at least one constricted part is formed, and relatively fine raised synthetic fibers, each having a rate of dissolution in the solvent or of hydrolysis with the hydrolyzing agent higher than that of said relatively thick raised fibers.

Synthetic fur and process for preparation thereof

A process for the preparation of a suede-like raised fabric which comprises preparing a raised fabric which has naps consisting of extra fine fibers (0.0001 to 0.8 denier), applying an emulsion of amino resin to the raised fabric, and after drying, heat-treating the applied raised fabric at 100.degree. to 180.degree. C. to let the amino resin in the fabric harden.

Process for the preparation of suede-like raised fabric

A suede-like raised woven fabric which comprises: warp yarns; weft yarns, each being a single twist filament yarn or a loopy textured filament yarn consisting of a bundle of fine fibers; and an elastic polymer applied to the fabric. The bundle of fine fibers consists of a raised portion having an average monofilament denier of from 0.05 to 0.4 and an unraised portion having an average monofilament denier of above 0.4 but not exceeding 0.8. The raised woven fabric is prepared by weaving a fabric using as weft yarn a single twist filament yarn or a loopy textured filament yarn comprising hollow composite fibers, each composed of at least four alternately arranged components of fiber-forming polyester and fiber-forming polyamide which are mutually adhered side-by-side encompassing a hollow space and extend along the longitudinal axis of the fiber to form a tubular body, and dividing the hollow composite fibers into fine fibers to form a bundle of fine fibers consisting of raised and unraised portions by a raising operation. The raised woven fabric has a high density and excellent uniformity of the raised fine fibers, and has excellent suppleness, surface abrasion and pilling resistances.

Suede-like raised woven fabric and process for the preparation thereof

A suede-like or deer skin-like raised woven or knitted fabric having at least one raised surface is produced by providing a woven or knitted fabric using a yarn consisting of synthetic hollow composite fibers each composed of two or more fiber-forming polyester constituents and two or more fiber-forming polyamide constituents and having a hollow space surrounded by the polyamide and polyester constituents which are arranged alternately with each other and adhered to each other side-by-side so as to form a tube-shaped body, and raising a surface of the fabric while allowing the hollow composite fibers located in at least the raised surface portion of the fabric to be divided into numerous very fine fibrils consisting of said polyester and polyamide constituents.

Raised woven or knitted fabric and process for producing the same

An improved jet dyeing process for fibrous articles containing polyester-type synthetic fibers which comprises heating the bath liquid while moving said fibrous article at a rate of 80 to 300 meters/min. in a bath containing no dye; adding a dye liquor at a rate of not more than 20 liters/sec. when the temperature of the dye bath has exceeded 110.degree.C; and successively dyeing the fibrous article at a temperature of more than 110.degree.C. while moving it at the above rate, and an apparatus suitable for practising aforesaid jet dyeing process.

Process for jet dyeing fibrous articles containing polyester-type

Aromatic polyamide fibers or fabrics are dyed in a deep and brilliant color with good light fastness by impregnating the fibers or fabrics with (a) a cationic dye, (b) an aliphatic hydroxy compound having a boiling point of at least 180.degree.C., (c) at least one swelling agent selected from o-phenylphenol, p-phenylphenol, benzophenone, .alpha.-naphthol and .beta.-naphthol and (d) at least one of alkali metal salts or ammonium salts of inorganic or organic acids, the amount of the salt being 1 to 10% by weight based on the sum total of the amounts of (a), (b), (c) and (d), and then heat-treating the fibers or fabrics with steam.
