Plural types of fixed format data for printing on a label tape are previously stored in a ROM in a label printer. The label printer displays a menu for selecting a fixed format on a display section. A user operates a key input section to select a fixed format and then input character data. The input character data is printed on a label tape in accordance with a format based on selected fixed format data. Therefore, the printing apparatus can easily input data and prepare elaborate label tapes.

Apparatus and method of making print according to fixed format

A CPU sequentially reads bit data on a figure stored in a character-to-be-converted area. When the last read bit data is '0' and the current read bit data is '1', the CPU saves into a character saving area that character data of character string data stored in a character processing area and pointed out by a pointer, then arranges the character data pointed out by the pointer in a corresponding position in a three-dimensional image creation area, and updates the pointer. When the last read bit data is '1' and the current read bit data is '0', the CPU inserts the character data saved in the character saving area at a position pointed out by the pointer in the character processing area, arranges the character data at a corresponding position in the three-dimensional image creation area, and updates the pointer. When the last read bit data is equal to the current read bit data, the CPU arranges the character data pointed out by the pointer in the character processing area in the three-dimensional image creation area, and updates the pointer. In this way, the CPU arranges the character string data stored in the character processing area in the three-dimensional image creating area to create three-dimensional data on the figure stored in the character-to-be-converted area and to be converted and prints the created three-dimensional data on recording paper with a printer.

Variable length data stored in a RAM are sequentially read out by designating their addresses. It is detected whether or not the readout data is a code indicating a delimitation of, e.g., a word block, record block, file block, or the like. If it is detected that the readout data is a code indicating a delimitation, an address at that time is latched, thus forming an address table based on the latched address. The address table thus formed is utilized upon retrieval of data in the RAM, thus allowing high-speed data access.

Variable length data processing apparatus with delimiter location-based

Data divided by delimiters representing the boundaries of the data is stored in a data memory. Instructions each including designation of a delimiter are stored in an instruction register. A control circuit decodes an instruction output from the instruction register, and repeats processing of the data read out from the data memory in accordance with the decoded instruction every time the data is read out therefrom. A delimiter detector outputs a coincidence signal when it detects that a delimiter which coincides with the delimiter in the instruction is present in the data read out from the data memory. When this coincidence signal is input to the control circuit, the control circuit ends the processing which has been performed in accordance with the instruction.
