A medical device includes: an end effector configured to apply treatment energy for treating a living tissue according to supplied power; a drive source configured to supply the power to the end effector; and a processor configured to classify, in a first time period after a supply of the power to the end effector is started, the living tissue into any one of a plurality of tissue types based on a first parameter detected in the first time period, control an operation of the drive source after the first time period based on the classified tissue type, reclassify the classified living tissue into any one of the plurality of tissue types based on a second parameter detected after the first time period, and control an operation of the drive source based on the tissue type into which the classified living tissue is reclassified.

The laser irradiation unit is equipped with a movable laser emission part for emitting laser beams to tissues, a motor for reciprocating a laser emission part, and a guide lumen for supporting an endoscope in such a way as to enable it to move in the direction of the laser emission part. The control unit controls the motor that drives the laser emission part to make reciprocation motion in such a way that the laser emission part stops at a position where it does not interfere with the moving passage of the endoscope.

Thermal treatment apparatus

A heating treatment system consists mainly of coagulating/incising forceps in which a plurality of heating elements are incorporated, and a main unit that feeds power to the heating elements incorporated in the coagulating/incising forceps and that drives and controls the heating elements. The main unit can be connected to coagulating/incising forceps in which up to four heating elements are incorporated. The main unit includes element temperature measurement/output control units and temperature setting units which are associated with four channels allocated to the heating elements. A control unit controls the element temperature measurement/output control units and temperature setting units. The control unit judges the type of connected forceps by referencing data stored in advance in a memory using information of the type of forceps received from the coagulating/incising forceps, and controls power feed to the heating elements.

An electrosurgical apparatus supplies high-frequency power from a high-frequency power supply unit to an instrument placed in association with an organic tissue to dissect or coagulate the organic tissue. An impedance calculating section calculates the impedance value of the organic tissue. A rate-of-impedance-change calculating section calculates the rate of impedance change of the organic tissue based on the impedance value calculated by the impedance calculating section. A control section controls the high-frequency output of the high-frequency power supply unit based on a predetermined condition provided by combining the impedance value calculated by the impedance calculating section with the rate of impedance change calculated by the rate-of-impedance-change calculating section.

Electrosurgical apparatus with stable coagulation

A plurality of pieces of medical equipment each of which includes a microcomputer and has a program used to control the microcomputer stored in a reproqrammable storage device such as an EEPROM is linked to a remote computer over a communication line. Using a rewriting/updating program sent from the computer, each piece of medical equipment rewrites or updates the program stored in the storage device. When a plurality of programs is stored, if one of the programs is rewritten or updated abnormally, the other program is used to activate medical equipment.
