A rectangular cartridge that is substantially common in shape and external size with a disc cartridge in which a flexible magnetic disc with a diameter of 3.5 inches is accommodated, wherein at one side of the cartridge there is formed an insertion hole which permits insertion of a substantially rectangular plate-shaped memory and is adapted so that the plate-shaped memory is inserted with the short side as the insertion side. Further, there is formed a memory attaching portion substantially in correspondence with a long side of the plate-shaped memory in a manner continuous to the memory insertion hole and in parallel to the side adjacent to the side where the memory insertion hole is formed. In addition, a group of terminals for connection to terminals of the plate-shaped memory are provided at the terminating portion of the memory attaching portion. The cartridge is intended to be loaded into a recording and/or reproducing apparatus in the state where the plate-shaped memory is attached to the memory attaching portion. Thus, recording and/or reproduction of information signals with respect to the plate-shaped memory are carried out.

A photographic system includes a photographic camera that can successively expose a photographic film and an automatic printer for automatically printing the exposed and processed photographic film. The photographic camera magnetically or optically records at an area away from an exposure area of the photographic film an aspect ratio information signal indicative of a selected aspect ratio and a frame number signal, and the automatic printer automatically produces prints from the photographic film using the magnetically or optically recorded aspect ratio information signal and frame number signal detected from the photographic film.

Recording and reproducing apparatus is disclosed wherein stereo signal components which include a monaural signal component are supplied to a signal processing circuit. The signal processing circuit replaces the supplied monaural signal component with a further monaural signal component. The thus processed stereo signal components, including the further monaural signal component, are supplied to a first recording head for recording on a medium. The supplied stereo signal components including the supplied monaural signal component are coupled to a second recording head for recording on the medium. The recorded stereo signal components including the further monaural signal component and the recorded stereo signal components including the supplied monaural signal component are reproduced from the medium and sounds corresponding to the reproduced signals are generated. The reproduced sounds thus include the stereo signal components, the further monaural signal component and the supplied monaural signal component so that both monaural signal components can be audibly compared. In one embodiment, reproduction of the supplied monaural signal component can be supressed, whereby the generated sounds represent the further monaural signal component in combination with the supplied stereo components.
