A method for manufacturing a continuous casting mold in which cracking and spalling are less likely to occur in a filling laminate. The method includes filling a plurality of concave portions formed on an inner surface of a copper-made mold copper plate or a copper alloy-made mold copper plate used for continuously casting steel at least in a region including a meniscus position of molten steel in a casting process with a metal having a thermal conductivity different from that of the mold copper plate.

The method for manufacturing a high-manganese steel cast slab according to the present invention includes manufacturing a cast slab by continuously casting a molten high-manganese steel having a specific chemical composition. In the manufacture, in a continuous-casting machine or during transportation before subsequent charging into a heating furnace for hot rolling, a processing strain is applied to the cast slab having a surface temperature of 600&#xb0; C. or higher and 1100&#xb0; C. or lower in such an amount that a processing strain amount calculated by a certain formula is 3.0% or more and 10.0% or less.

In a section in a continuous casting machine in a slab withdrawal direction, a section from a start point at which the average value of solid phase ratios along a thickness direction at a widthwise center of a slab is within a range of 0.4 or more and 0.8 or less to an end point at which the average value of solid phase ratios along the thickness direction at the widthwise center of the slab is greater than the average value of solid phase ratios at the start point and is 1.0 or less is set as a first section. The slab is cooled by water in the first section at a water flow rate per surface area of the slab within a range of 50 L/(m&#xd7;min) or more and 2,000 L/(m&#xd7;min) or less.

In the continuous steel casting method of the present invention, a gap between strand support rolls with a strand in a rectangular shape interposed therebetween is increased toward a downstream side in a casting direction to thereby bulge the strand having an unsolidified layer thereinside such that the thickness between long-side surfaces of the strand increases within the range of 0.1% or more and 10% or less of the thickness of the strand inside a mold. A portion of the strand in which the solid phase fraction in a central portion of the strand is within the range of 0.2 or more and less than 0.9 satisfies a prescribed total rolling reduction and a prescribed reduction gradient, and a portion of the strand in which the solid phase fraction is within the range of 0.9 or more satisfies a prescribed total rolling reduction and a prescribed reduction gradient.

A method of producing a steel material includes a step of adding Ca to molten steel with an amount of Ca adjusted within a range satisfying the formula (1) below: where Ca is the amount [kg] of Ca added, y is an yield [%] of Ca, [S] is a concentration [% by mass] of S in the steel before addition of Ca, [AlO] is an amount [% by mass] of AlOin the steel before addition of Ca, and W is a weight [kg] of the molten steel.
