A process for making a lithographic printing plate that includes in sequence an exposure step of imagewise exposing by means of an infrared laser a lithographic printing plate precursor that has provided above a support a positive-working recording layer including (Component A) a (meth)acrylonitrile-derived monomer unit- and styrene-derived monomer unit-containing copolymer, (Component B) a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble resin, and (Component C) an infrared absorbing agent and a development step of developing, using an aqueous alkali solution including a betaine-based surfactant or a nonionic surfactant, the aqueous alkali solution having a pH of 8.5 to 10.8, by removing an exposed area of the positive-working recording layer whose solubility in aqueous alkali solution has been increased by the exposure. There is also provided a lithographic printing plate made by the process for making a lithographic printing plate.

A positive-working lithographic printing plate precursor for infrared laser is provided that includes, layered sequentially above a support, a lower layer and an upper layer, the lower layer and/or the upper layer including an infrared absorbing agent, either the lower layer comprising an alkali-soluble group-containing graft copolymer or the upper layer comprising a sulfonamide group-, active imide group-, and/or amide group-containing graft copolymer, and the graft copolymer being a polyurethane resin having as a graft chain an ethylenically unsaturated monomer-derived constitutional unit. A PS plate comprises an aluminum substrate having anodized layers on both sides, a photosensitive layer on one side of the substrate and a coating layer of a metal oxide obtained by hydrolyzing and polycondensing an organic or inorganic metal compound on the side of the substrate opposite to that carrying the photosensitive layer. The PS plate is processed by a method comprising the steps of imagewise exposing it to light and then developing the imagewise exposed plate with an alkali aqueous solution containing an alkali metal silicate and having a pH of not less than 12. The PS plate and the method for processing the same permit substantial reduction of the amount of a replenisher for development to be supplemented and ensure a stable processing of the plate over a long time period without accompanying formation of insolubles in a developer. The PS plates never cause adhesion and peeling off of the photosensitive layers even when they are put in stacks. Moreover, the PS plate does not suffer from a problem of contamination of the back face due to adhesion of lipophilic substances such as a developing ink.

PS plate and method for processing same

The present invention relates to a light-sensitive composition comprising (a) a photo-crosslinkable polymer having a maleimido group at a side chain and (b) a sensitizer such as the following compounds: ##STR1## The present invention provides a light-sensitive composition having very high sensitivity; providing excellent images during only a short exposure time; and being sensitive to light of long wave length.

A light-sensitive composition which comprises, (a) an ethylenically unsaturated addition polymerizable compound, (b) an alkaline water-soluble or swellable, and film-forming polymer, (c) a photopolymerization initiator, (d) a negative working diazo resin, and (e) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a higher fatty acid and a higher fatty acid amide which are solid at ordinary temperatures. A light-sensitive composition comprises a photo-crosslinkable polymer having a photo-dimerizable unsaturated bond and a sensitizer represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted allyl group, provided that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may form a ring together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached; n represents 0, 1 or 2; and G.sub.1 and G.sub.2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a cyano group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxycarbonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryloxycarbonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted acyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylcarbonyl group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, an alkylsulfonyl group, an arylsulfonyl group or a fluoroalkylsulfonyl group, provided that G.sub.1 and G.sub.2 do not represent a hydrogen atom simulataneously and that G.sub.1 and G.sub.2 may form a ring comprising a non-metallic atom and the carbon atoms to which they are attached. According to the present invention, the sensitivity of the light-sensitive composition is greatly improved by the use of the above sensitizer.
