An automobile connector assembly connects a power supply side and an electrical load side of an electrical circuit in an automobile. The assembly comprises a female terminal connector disposed on the electrical load side of the electric circuit. The female terminal connector has a female housing provided with female terminals positioned within female terminal accommodating openings. A male terminal connector mates with the female terminal connector. The male terminal connector is disposed on the power supply side of the electric circuit and has an insulating male housing provided with male terminals. Insulating resin members cover tip ends and both side surfaces of each of the male terminals to prevent short-circuiting and are discharge between adjacent terminals. The female and male terminals may include power supply and signal terminals, and the female terminals may include exposed portions for test probe use.

A male contact having a male contact section formed by bending both sides of a metal plate inward and a method for manufacturing the same. The male contact section having a substantially rectangular cross-sectional shape and curved sections formed on four corners of the cross-sectional plane of the male contact section having a radius that is equal to or less than &frac13; of the thickness of the metal plate. The male contact makes it possible to obtain a sufficient area of contact with a mating female contact even in cases where the width of the male contact section formed by bending both sides of the metal plate inward is small.

The present invention provides an electrical contact for a flexible flat electrical cable which allows connection with a high contact pressure and holding force, but which does not damage the conductor. The contact section (10) of the electrical contact (1) has two plates (2, 4), which have protruding ribs (14a, 14b; 16a, 16b). The plates (2, 4) are connected by a connecting member (6); a flat cable (50) is accommodated between the plates (2, 4), and the cable is held between plates (2, 4) by securing members (18, 20), which are disposed in the vicinity of the protruding ribs (14a, 14b; 16a, 16b) on the side edges of the plate (4).

The present invention provides a waterproof electrical connector assembly which is molded in two separate processes. Pluralities of respective projections 42, 48 protrude from surfaces 45, 46 of an inner housing 44 which has contacts 20, 30 so that a contact assembly 40 is formed. Contact assembly 40 is placed in a mold and positioned so that the tip ends of the projections 42, 48 substantially engage inside surfaces of the mold; afterward, an outer housing is molded to a thickness which is substantially the same as the height of the projections 42, 48.

The present invention provides an electrical connector and an electrical connector assembly in which good and uniform electrical connection can be obtained over a broad area even in cases where there is some positional deviation between the connectors at the time of mating engagement. The electrical connector 2 has an outer housing 50, a shield member 36 which is crimped onto an outer conductor 16 of a cable 10, an inner housing 70 and a male contact 30 which is disposed inside the inner housing 70 and crimped onto a center conductor. The male contact 30 has a cylindrical contact section 82 having a plurality of arms 88, and an elastic member 90 is disposed inside the arms 88.

The purpose of this invention is to provide an electrical connector for attachment to post-type terminals of electrical equipment which would allow for an easy attachment to the terminals and would cover the terminals in a fully-connected state. This is accomplished by a terminal (22) made by bending a blank stamped from a conductive sheet material and it comprises a first tubular section (22a) in which a core (21a) of cable (21) is secured by crimping and of a second tubular section arranged approximately perpendicularly to the first tubular section. The terminal (22) mounted to an inner housing (23) and the cable core (21) secured thereto are enveloped in an outer housing (26) by an over-molding method. The outer housing (26) has openings (26c) which engage latching arms (13) of the battery (10) when the second tubular section (22b) is placed over the post-type terminal (11).

The front section (2) of the waterproof plug (1) has an opening (10) of a small diameter, and its rear section (8) has an opening of a large diameter. When the waterproof plug (1) is placed over the wire with its conductor (94) exposed by stripping the insulation (92) from the end of the wire, the small diameter opening (10) and the large diameter opening (12) fit tightly over the conductor (94) and the insulation (92), respectively. A pin contact (40) is attached to the wire tip (96) by crimping, and the waterproof plug (1) is retained between the crimping section (46) of the pin contact (40) and the insulation (92) of the wire (90).

The elastic contact members (18) are provided in curved shape with their front ends (18a) fixed to a main body (16) inside a space 14, and their rear ends (18b) being able to slide on the main body (16) toward the rear inside of the space (14). Additionally, projecting parts (26) which contact the rear ends (18b) prevent more than a specified amount of deformation of the elastic contact members (18). The projecting parts (26) are provided at a specified distance to the rear of the positions of the rear ends (18b) of the elastic contact members (18).
