In a reciprocating high-pressure fuel pump that operates a plunger while facing a cam ridge of a plunger driving cam provided on a camshaft to which power of a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine is transmitted, the cam ridge includes a cam curved surface including two apexes at a cam angle interval of 180&#xb0; and two valley bottoms at a cam angle interval of 180&#xb0; and alternately connecting the apexes and the valley bottoms, and a crossing angle between a first virtual line connecting the two apexes and a second virtual line connecting the two valley bottoms is not a right angle as viewed in a direction of a camshaft axis.

High-pressure fuel pump

A variable valve-operating device for an internal combustion engine has a cam carrier with cam lobes formed therearound to act on an engine valve and with a speed increasing side lead groove and a speed decreasing side lead groove formed therearound to be engaged with a speed increasing side switching pin and a speed decreasing side switching pin, respectively, to axially shift the cam carrier, to selectively make one of the cam lobes to be operative. A speed increasing side entry lead groove portion of the speed increasing side lead groove is formed in a position axially overlapping a low speed steady position lead groove portion of the speed decreasing side lead groove. A speed decreasing side entry lead groove portion of the speed decreasing side entry lead groove is formed in a position axially overlapping a high speed steady position lead groove portion of the speed increasing side lead groove. The variable valve-operating device can thus be miniaturized by reducing the axial width of the cam carrier.

Variable valve-operating device

In the inlet passage structure of the V-type internal combustion engine, front and rear banks have inlet ports with a nearly identical inlet passage length, and an inlet chamber is connected to a top end openings of the inlet ports. A throttle body and the inlet chamber are offset on a side leading to a cylinder on a side away from the throttle body. The inside of the inlet chamber is formed with a nearly straight inlet passage from the throttle body to the top end opening of the inlet port leading to the cylinder bore on the side away from the throttle body, and a curved inlet passage to the top end opening of the inlet port leading to the cylinder on a close side.

In an engine valve drive control device, a cam lobe is removably engaged with a cam shaft of a valve actuating line of an engine. The cam lobe is rotated, when engaged, together with the cam shaft to drive a valve. Free rotation of the disengaged cam lobe is halted by a cam rotation halting device to leave the valve inactive. The cam lobe is made axially slidable in the axial direction with respect to the cam shaft, and the engagement/disengagement of the cam lobe with/from the cam shaft are switched according to the sliding motion of the cam lobe.
