The invention is directed to a cost effective method for manufacturing an electrophotographic-photosensitive-body comprising forming a photosensitive layer on the internal surface of a cylindrical mold, polymerizing a resin for a transparent substrate using a centrifugal casting method, and integrating the resin obtained with the photosensitive layer. The electrophotographic-photosensitive-body obtained may be used for an internally illuminating electrophotographic apparatus and that has an excellent printing performance.

Method for manufacturing electrophotographic photosensitive bodies

Cylindrical tubular substrates for an electrophotographic conductor can be made with different lengths from an injection-molded plastic cylindrical mother tube. The length of the mother tube is sufficient for the greatest desired length. The mother tube has a slanting inner surface which facilitates removal of the tube from the molding die, and non-slanting inner end surfaces which can be stepped. The desired length is obtained by cutting the mother tube across one of the steps. The resulting non-slanting inner end surface of the substrate provides a spigot joint for tightly receiving a flange.

Cylindrical substrate for electrophotography

A photoconductor for internal irradiation electrophotography includes a substrate which is hollow, cylindrical, and transparent, and which is composed of a synthetic resin; an electroconductive layer which is provided on an outer surface of the substrate and which has a surface resistance of no higher than 2.times.10.sup.6 .OMEGA./square; a photosensitive layer which is composed of organic material, which is provided on the electroconductive layer, and which is dip coated from a liquid including an organic solvent; and a protective layer which is provided on an inner surface of the substrate, wherein the protective layer and the electroconductive layer are resistant to the organic solvent of the liquid for dip coating.

Photoconductor for internal irradiation electrophotography

A direct heating type toner fixing roller for electrophotographic apparatuses is composed of a cylindrical tube made of a resin into which are mixed electrically conductive additives, preferably carbon fiber and carbon black powder. The resin is injection molded under defined conditions so that a reverse crown profile is formed. The roller of the invention is held in place at the toner fixing position by shafts, and the shafts themselves are supported by flanges. Electric power is supplied to the cylindrical tube to heat the tube to a predetermined thermal toner-fixing temperature through power supply terminals in contact with electrically conductive flanges. Alternately, the power supply terminals may make direct contact with peripheral parts of the cylindrical tube to heat the tube.

A cylindrical tubular substrate for an electrophotographic photoconductor is made of a conductive resin. The substrate is smoothly rotatable about its axis of rotation, securely grounded, and easily and inexpensively manufactured. It has a cylindrical tube portion and a flange portion with a gear and a shaft through-hole. These portions can be integrated as a unit of a material containing an electrically conductive resin as the main component. Alternatively, the shaft is integrated unitarily with the substrate by single-step molding. Or further, a flange, made of a resin with high sliding wear resistance and with a gear and a shaft through-hole, or a previously molded flange made of a resin with high sliding wear resistance and with a gear and a shaft insert-molded to the flange, with an electric conductor, is disposed in an assembling molding step at an end of a cylindrical tube made essentially of a conductive resin.

Substrate for an electrophotographic photoconductor

An organic photosensitive member for electrophotography is formed of a cylindrical supporting member and an organic photosensitive layer on an outer surface of the supporting member. The supporting member is formed of a material of 10.sup.4 ohm.cm in volume resistivity containing a cross-linking type polyphenylenesulfide resin as a main component, and a highly conductive carbon black of 10.sup.-1 ohm.cm or less in volume resistivity. Thus, the supporting member has a light weight with good productivity and good chemical and thermal resistance. The supporting member can be made with dimensional accuracy despite its thin and long shape, and also has a uniform surface roughness, stable surface quality and good adhesion.

The photoconductor of the invention includes a cylindrical substrate, and an organic photoconductive layer formed on the cylindrical substrate. The substrate is made of the material which contains polyphthalamide resin to which carbon black is added to lower the volume resistivity of the material to 10.sup.4 .OMEGA. cm or less. Reinforcing agent such as glass fibers may also be added to add dimensional and mechanical strength and stability. In an organic photoconductor for electrophotography, improved adhesiveness is realized between a substrate that contains a crosslinked polyphenylene sulfide as its main component and an organic photoconductor layer on the substrate. The substrate is cylindrical and conductive. With A denoting the thermal expansion coefficient of the substrate and B denoting the thermal expansion coefficient of the organic photoconductor layer, the improvement is realized when 1/2.gtoreq.A/B.gtoreq. 1/4.

Organic photoconductor with crosslinked polyphenylene sulfide support

An organic photosensitive member for electrophotography is formed of a cylindrical supporting member and an organic photosensitive layer on an outer surface of the supporting member. The supporting member is formed of a material of 10.sup.4 ohm.multidot.cm in volume resistivity containing a cross-linking type polyphenylenesulfide resin as a main component, and a highly conductive carbon black of 10.sup.1 ohm.multidot.cm or less in volume resistivity.
