The present invention is directed to a header assembly attachable to a medical device for the purpose of connecting its output terminals to at least one lead, the lead terminating at a target organ or portion of the body intending to be assisted. A number of leads are connectable to the header, including single and coaxial leads. The header assembly may be molded directly to the medical device or preformed and then attached to the device casing, either by mechanical fastener and/or chemical adhesive.

One piece header assembly for an implantable medical device

An electromagnetic coil assembly comprising a spool-spindle and a case. The spool-spindle comprises a spindle portion and a larger included portion. The spindle portion has a conductor wound thereon. The larger included portion has opening for receiving the conductor. The case has a first case end and a second case end, with an opening extending through the case. A first internal surrounding surface extends from the second case end and a second surrounding internal surface having a smaller diameter extends from the first case end. The first internal surrounding surface meets the second internal surrounding surface at an annular internal wall. The spool-spindle is positioned in the case until the larger include portion abuts against the annular internal wall, and the case and spool-spindle are joined.

An electromagnetic pump comprising an armature comprising a pole portion joined to a plunger portion, wherein the plunger portion comprises a one-piece structure including shaft portions of increasing diameters and a head portion comprising a diameter greater than the shaft portions, the plunger portion and a pole portion located internal to the pump housing for magnetic attraction by an electromagnet means. A retainer element is joined with the plunger portion and a main spring urges on the retainer element to move the plunger thus allowing for a return stoke of the plunger as the pump cycles. Guiding of the armature is performed exclusively by a cooperating relationship between the armature plunger portion and an adjacent portion at the pump housing.

Low power electromagnetic pump

An electromagnetic pump including a housing having an interior fluid containing region, a check valve operatively flow in a direction from an inlet toward an outlet and blocking fluid flow in a direction from the outlet to the inlet, an electromagnet carried by the housing located external to the fluid containing region, and a barrier of fluid impervious material for isolating the electromagnet from the fluid. An armature movable in the housing through pumping and return strokes has a pole portion located for magnetic attraction by the electromagnet and has a plunger portion extending from the pole portion. The armature plunger and pole portions have formations crimped together to secure the plunger and pole portions together. The barrier or an end surface of the armature pole portion are shaped to enhance separation of the barrier and armature pole portion at the beginning of the return stroke. The housing is provided with shims for adjustment of the delivered stroke volume.

An electromagnetic pump including a housing having an interior fluid containing region, a check valve operatively associated with the fluid containing region for allowing fluid flow in a direction from an inlet toward an outlet and blocking fluid flow in a direction from the outlet to the inlet, an electromagnet carried by the housing located external to the fluid containing region, and a barrier of fluid impervious material for isolating the electromagnet from the fluid. An electromagnetic pump having an electromagnet carried by the housing external to the fluid chambers, and an armature moveable in the housing having a pole magnetically attracted by the electromagnet and a piston to force fluid out of the chambers and through the pump outlet. A path provides controlled bypass for bubbles in the fluid around the armature piston between the fluid pumping chamber and the fluid receiving chamber only during the return stroke of the armature. Fluid inertia is reduced by an outlet orifice in the path of fluid flow from the pump outlet and by a bypass orifice for fluid flow in the bypass path, the orifices being provided either individually or in combination depending upon the fluid flow characteristics of the system including the pump. An accumulator in the fluid flow path between the pump outlet and a catheter leading away from the pump alleviates inertial and viscous effects arising from the catheter. The armature pole has a fluid-contacting section of material which is compatible with and corrosion resistant to the fluid, which can be a body of magnetic material within a titanium enclosure or a body of chrome-molybdenum-iron alloy.

An electromagnetic pump comprising a housing having fluid receiving and pumping chambers in communication with an inlet and outlet, respectively, an electromagnet carried by the housing external to the fluid chambers thereof, and an armature movable in the housing having a pole portion magnetically attracted by the electromagnet and a piston portion to force fluid out of the chambers and through the pump outlet. A path provides controlled bypass for bubbles in the fluid around the armature piston portion between the fluid pumping chamber and the fluid receiving chamber only during the return stroke of the armature. Fluid inertia is reduced by an outlet orifice in the path of fluid flow from the pump outlet and by a bypass orifice for fluid flow in the bypass path, the orifices being provided either individually or in combination depending upon the fluid flow characteristics of the system including the pump. The armature pole portion has a fluid-contacting section of material which is compatible with and corrosion resistant to the fluid, which can be a body of magnetic material within a titanium enclosure or a body of chrome-molybdenum-iron alloy. The check valve and inlet are so arranged that the pump displacement can be reduced without reducing the bubble pumping capability of the pump.

A medical grasper device (10) that is useful for grasping and manipulating a body organ is described. The grasper device is partially inserted into a body cavity and comprises a flexible strap (16) having a distal section (18) that is deployed from a tube (12) to form a partially closed loop (22). A terminal end of the strap has an attachment means, such as aperture (32), that is manipulated by a separate forceps-type device to mate the attachment aperture with a connection means (34) to complete the loop. The closed loop is then adjustable in size to provide for positioning the loop at a desired location around the target body organ to grasp and manipulate the body organ. Various embodiments show the connection means provided on either the tube, a drive rod (406) disposed in a movable relationship inside the tube and on the strap itself, and connectable to the strap attachment means to close the loop.
