A method establishes a video telephone connection in a data network that includes a telephone network and an IP network based on the internet protocol. The expression video telephony connection is to be taken generally in this context and encompasses multimedia telephony in addition to pure video telephony.

A video telecommunication connection is established via a landline telecommunications network and an IP multimedia subsystem telecommunications network using a media gateway control function of at least one Internet multimedia-media gateway device in the IP multimedia subsystem telecommunications network.
