Unsaturated palm oil fatty alcohols with an iodine number in the range from 65 to 85, which contain substantially unsaturated fatty alcohols and mixtures of saturated fatty alcohols of the formula (I):ROH &#x2003;&#x2003;(I)in which Ris a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched alkyl radical having 14 to 20 carbon atoms, are obtained by (a) fractionating palm oil fatty acid methyl esters into a mainly saturated C-distillate and a mainly unsaturated C-bottom product; and (b) hydrogenating the bottom product with retention of the double bonds to give the corresponding alcohols.

Branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohol sulfates are produced by a process which comprises the steps of: (a) dimerizing unsaturated C fatty acid to form a dimer fraction and a monomer fraction comprised of branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acids and straight chain saturated fatty acids, (b) removing the monomer fraction from the dimerization step, (c) converting the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acids from step (b) into the corresponding fatty acid methyl esters, (d) hydrogenating the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters with the double bonds intact to form the corresponding branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohols and (e) sulfating and neutralizing the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohols. The fatty alcohol sulfates thus produced exhibit improved performance properties and greater oxidative stability than standard unsaturated fatty alcohol sulfates.

Production of branched, largely unsaturated fatty alcohol polyglycolethers

The invention relates to a contact adhesive based on a polyurethane of at least one diisocyanate and at least one low molecular weight polyethylene glycol, the polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of up to 2,000 and the polyurethane having a degrees of crystallization of less than 20%. The contact adhesive can be applied from the melt or from an aqueous solution or dispersion. Surprisingly, it is suitable not only for polar plastic surface, but above all for PE and PP surfaces and of course for paper. Accordingly, the contact adhesive is preferably useful for applying paper labels to PE bottles.

Hydrophilic polyurethanes

A composition useful as a parting agent for concrete formwork is provided. The composition comprises water; a completely or predominantly unsaturated fatty alcohol containing 6 to 22 carbon atoms and with an iodine value of 40 to 200; and an alkyl or alkenyl oligoglycoside having an alkyl or alkenyl group containing 4 to 22 carbon atoms, a sugar unit containing 5 or 6 carbon atoms and a degree of oligomerization of 1 to 10. The parting agent is particularly storage-stable at low temperatures.

The invention concerns a polyacrylamide-containing composition which is characterized in that it has a molecular weight of between 2,000 and 8,000 g/mol, determined by means of gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and as a 15% aqueous solution still has a Brookfield viscosity of between 100 and 500 mPas at 25&deg; C. The invention further concerns the use of this polyacrylamide-containing composition for the flat bonding of water absorbent and hard surfaces and for equipping plastic surfaces with non-slip protection.
