Race grooves and lobe outer surfaces of a constant-velocity race gear centered on a gear axis are finished by engaging a first groove of the race gear with a rotating groove-machining tool and relatively moving the race gear and rotating groove-machining tool arcuately to finish the first groove while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the first groove of the race gear is disengaged from the rotating groove-machining tool while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the race gear is rotated about its gear axis to align a second groove with the rotating groove-machining tool while engaging a first lobe outer surface with a rotating surface-machining tool to finish same. These steps are repeated in the same order to finish the second groove and a second lobe outer surface and so on until all the grooves and lobe outer surfaces of the race gear are finished.

A machining apparatus () for machining rotation-symmetrical workpieces (), comprising a machine frame (), which has a vertical front face (), further comprising at least one vertical workpiece spindle () that is arranged on the front face () and can be driven rotatorily, comprising at least two tool holders (and), which are arranged on the front face () displaceably horizontally and vertically by means of compound slides (and), further comprising a conveyor () for workpieces (), and a loading and unloading device (), wherein the workpieces () can be transported by the conveyor () in a direction parallel to the front face ().

Machining apparatus

The invention relates to a tool revolver () with: a rotationally mounted tool carrier () that can be pivoted into the respective working position for a tool by means of a pivot drive; fixed tools (), and; at least one rotationally drivable tool (). Particular advantageous result due to the fact that the rotationally drivable tool () is mounted on the front face of the tool carrier (). The invention also relates to a machine tool () equipped with a tool revolver () of the aforementioned type.

A workpiece-treating machine has a pair of longitudinally extending and transversely spaced upright walls and a plurality of horizontal transverse webs bridging the walls and forming therewith a rigid elongated frame defining at one longitudinal end a receiving station, at an opposite longitudinal end an output station, between the receiving station and output station a pair of longitudinally spaced working stations, and a transfer station between the working stations. A workpiece is introduced into the frame at the receiving station and taken out at the output station. A guide above all the stations carries mounts shiftable along the guides above the stations. Respective grippers shiftable vertically along vertical rails on the mounts can hold the workpieces in the working stations for action by tools therein and carry the workpieces longitudinally from station to station.

Flexible transfer machine

A machine tool in which the workpiece is transported by a pair of longitudinal carriages with transverse and vertical carriages supporting the workpiece holders to a machining region from a workpiece replacement region. In the machining region the workpiece is displaced relative to the tool and possibly rotated. In the workpiece replacement region, the workpiece is replaced in the machine tool by a workpiece which has not been machined.

Machine tool

At least one machine tool, preferably two machine tools () is or are provided for the production of workpieces, or for the complete production of complex workparts, which machine tools each have a basic body () and machine units () movable in the horizontal direction thereon. Each machine unit has a work spindle () which is supported displaceably in the axial direction of the spindle in a carrier () of crankshaft-like design. The carrier is mounted pivotably and supports each work spindle above a respective transport system () for a workpiece or the workparts (). Machining devices, for example in the form of a tool carrier () for turning, drilling and/or milling tools, a laser-welding device (), a grinding device () and a brushing device (), and also an apparatus for joining, are provided in the functional area of one of these machine tools.

Method and device for machining parts

An improved chuck assembly for a lathe comprises a housing member serving as a base, first holding means movably connected to the base for selectively radially gripping the side surface of a workpiece, and second holding means connected to the base for axially engaging an end surface of such workpiece. The second holding means is located generally centrally of the first holding means, the first holding means being movable both radially and longitudinally to clear the end of the workpiece without removal of the chuck.
