A process for the preparation of a heterophasic copolymer of propylene and ethylene comprising polymerizing propylene and ethylene in the gas phase in the presence of a solid particulate catalyst free from an external carrier comprising: (i) a symmetrical complex of formula (I), wherein M is zirconium or hafnium; each X is a sigma ligand; L is a divalent bridge selected from &#x2014;R'C&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;C&#x2014;CR&#x2032;2-, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Si&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Si&#x2014;SiR&#x2032;&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Ge&#x2014;, wherein each R&#x2032; is independently a hydrogen atom, C1-C20-alkyl, tri(C1-C20-alkyl)silyl, C6-C20-aryl, C7-C20-arylalkyl or C7-C20-alkylaryl; Ris a C1-C20 hydrocarbyl radical; Ris a C1-C20 hydrocarbyl radical; Ris a tertiary C4-C20 hydrocarbyl radical; Ris a hydrogen atom or a C-hydrocarbyl radical; n is 0 to 3; Ris a C1-C20 hydrocarbyl radical and optionally two adjacent Rgroups taken together can form a further mono or multicyclic ring condensed to Ph ring optionally substituted by one or two groups R; and Ris a C1-C10 alkyl radical and (ii) a cocatalyst, preferably comprising an organometallic compound of a Group 13 metal; wherein the xylene soluble fraction (XS) of the heterophasic copolymer of propylene and ethylene has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 1.5 dl/g and an ethylene content of 10 to 70 wt %.

A heterophasic polypropylene resin comprising a polypropylene homopolymer matrix phase (A) and an ethylene-propylene copolymer phase (B) dispersed within the matrix, wherein the xylene soluble fraction of the heterophasic polypropylene resin is in the range 20 to less than 50 wt %; the heterophasic polypropylene resin has an MFR2 of 0.01 to 50 g/10 min; the ethylene content of the xylene soluble fraction of the heterophasic polypropylene resin is in the range of at least 20 wt % to less than 50 wt %; the heterophasic polypropylene resin has a notched charpy impact strength at &#x2212;20 C of at least 25 kJ/m, preferably at least 50 kJ/m; and wherein the MFR(Matrix)/MFR(XS)&#x2267;5, preferably &#x2267;10.

A racemic complex of formula (I), wherein M is zirconium or hafnium; each X is a sigma ligand; L is a divalent bridge selected from &#x2014;R'C&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;C&#x2014;CR&#x2032;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Si&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Si&#x2014;SiR&#x2032;&#x2014;, &#x2014;R&#x2032;Ge&#x2014;, wherein each R&#x2032; is independently a hydrogen atom, C-hydrocarbyl, tri(C-alkyl)silyl, C-aryl, C-arylalkyl or C-alkylaryl; Rand R&#x2032; are each independently a Chydrocarbyl radical optionally containing one or more heteroatoms from groups 14-16; R&#x2032; is a Chydrocarbyl group optionally containing one or more heteroatoms from groups 14-16 and optionally substituted by one or more halo atoms. 

Catalysts

A polypropylene homopolymer with a melting point of less than 147&#xb0; C., a percentage of 2.1 errors of at least 1% and a xylene soluble fraction of less than 0.5 wt %.

Solid particulate catalysts comprising bridged metallocenes

Propylene-hexene random copolymer produced in the presence of a metallocene catalyst

The present invention relates to a process for preparing a propylene random copolymer comprising polymerization of propylene with a comonomer, said comonomer being ethylene or an &#x3b1;-olefin comprising at least four carbon atoms, in the presence of a catalyst in a multistage process comprising polymerization of propylene with a comonomer in a first reaction zone including at least one slurry reactor to give a first polymerization product, transferring said first product to a second reaction zone including at least one gas phase reactor and polymerisations of propylene with a comonomer in said gas phase reactor in the presence of said first polymerization product, wherein the temperature in the gas phase reactor is at least 10&#xb0; C. higher than in the slurry reactor and to a polymer obtainable by this process. Furthermore, the invention relates to a propylene random copolymer prepared by copolymerization of propylene with a comonomer wherein the distribution of the comonomer determined according to the TREF method is multimodal, preferably bimodal, a propylene random copolymer prepared by copolymerization of propylene with a comonomer wherein the copolymer is having an elution interval determined according to the TREF method of 50&#xb0; C. or more, a propylene random copolymer prepared by copolymerization of propylene with a comonomer, wherein the random copolymer is a unimodal polymer and the elution interval determined by the TREF method is given by the equation Y&#x2266;4.5&#xb7;m+16 wherein Y is the elution interval in &#xb0; C. and m is the percentage of ethylene in the copolymer in wt. %, and to the use of such a copolymers for the production of a film, of an article by blow moulding or injection moulding, of a fiber or of a pipe.

Propylene random copolymer and process for the production thereof

Modifiers based on high-pressure polyethylenes or low-pressure ethylene copolymers or highly amorphous olefin elastomers or mixtures of these with polyethylenes or isotactic polypropylenes are added to highly amorphous polypropylenes to reduce their surface tack.
