A mounted piston ring for a piston/cylinder unit. The piston ring covers a circumferential surface of the piston and seals it off from the cylinder. The piston ring has a width which is greater than the height of the circumferential surface, so that there is an axially projecting length of the piston ring relative to the piston. This axially projecting length is shaped into a spring end which is axially supported on a top side of the piston. One spring end having a circular-arc-shaped transition which is designed to be between 90&deg; and 180&deg;, and which spring end comes to bear on the first top side of the piston. The other spring end having an annular bearing surface, comes to bear in the region of the opposite second top side of the piston. In this region the other spring end, with respect to the shaping angle, is adapted to the angle between the circumferential surface and the second top side.

Piston ring

The invention relates to a guide bushing between two components axially movable relative to each other, especially for guiding a piston rod subjected to longitudinal and transverse forces in the region of a piston rod seal of a hydropneumatic vibration damper. The guide bushing encompasses the piston rod, is held axially in a piston rod guide and is made of a material having good gliding characteristics. The guide bushing is arranged in the piston rod guide with a radial clearance having a gap with a changeable width when the piston rod is subjected to transverse forces created between the receptacle diameter of the piston rod guide and the outer diameter of the guide bushing.

A process for manufacturing a molded piston ring for a piston in a piston-cylinder unit from a material which can be molded in a master mold. The surfaces of the piston in contact with the piston ring are provided with a separating agent which substantially prevents adhesive contact between the piston and piston ring. The piston is placed in the master mold including a shaping piece which at least partially contacts the circumferential surface of the piston. As a result of piston ring material being pressed in at the contact point or contact points of the shaping piece an expansion zone is formed at the piston which is free from the piston ring material.

Process for manufacturing a piston ring

A shock absorber with an affixed or clamped-on piston ring for a piston-cylinder unit, whereby the piston ring covers a lateral surface of the piston and creates a seal with respect to the cylinder, characterized by the fact that the piston ring has a width which is greater than the lateral surface, so that there is a projecting end of the piston ring with respect to the piston, which projecting end is shaped into a spring end which is supported on the cover side on the piston.

A cylinder-piston rod unit includes a sealing ring adjacent at least one end of the cylinder for forming a fluid-tight seal between the cylinder and the piston rod. The sealing ring includes a substantially axially extending sleeve portion and a substantially radially extending flange portion. A sealing-pressure application ring, which is subject to a circumferential tensioning force over at least the lower part of the operating temperature range of the sleeve portion, surrounds the sleeve portion and exerts a radial sealing force against the sleeve portion. The sealing ring is secured to the cylinder by the flange portion.
