The invention relates to compounds of the formula: ##STR1## in which R represents hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 separately represent hydrogen, a lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or benzyl radical, or represent, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, a heterocyclic radical such as a morpholino, 4-(pyrimidin-2-yl)-piperazinyl or 4-phenylpiperazinyl the phenyl radical of which being optionally substituted by halogen, lower alkoxy or trifluoromethyl, having CNS activity and particularly hypnotic properties. Moreover the compounds in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen can be used in the treatment of heart failure.

The invention relates to novel 6-aryloxy-2-oxo-1-aza-4-(or thia)-spiro[4,5]decane compounds. These compounds are represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which A stands for an oxygen or sulfur heteroatom; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each H, lower alkyl or aryl such as phenyl; X is H, a halogen atom such as chlorine or fluorine or a lower alkyl. Compounds according to the invention are useful as stimulating agents for vigilance, as psycho-stimulators and genesic stimulators.

These compounds are useful for treating spasmodic syndromes.

Pharmaceutically active compounds and the preparation thereof

Compounds of the formula ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable acid salts thereof, wherein X is hydrogen, halogen or methoxy, n is zero, Y is halogen and the ethyl piperazaine moiety is attached to the 2- or 4- position of the piperidine ring, is described. This invention relates to a new group of substituted cysteines having the general formula: ##STR1## in which: Ar is an aromatic or heteromonocyclic group, such as 2-thienyl or phenyl, which may be substituted by a halogen atom or by a lower alkyl or alkoxy group, and R is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group. These compounds are of use in human therapeutics as liquifiers for bronchal secretions in complaints of the respiratory passage and, in particular, in chronic bronchitis. The invention also relates to a method of preparing these compounds and to the application of these compounds, particularly in human therapeutics.
