A noise barrier system composed of a base and a transparent superstructure. A support holds at least two adjacent transparent noise barrier elements and includes a point-fastening of the transparent noise barrier element. A position of upper holding points of the transparent superstructure is arranged at a height of from 70 to 90% of a total height of the transparent noise barrier element and at a distance of from 3 to 50 times a thickness of the transparent noise barrier element from a vertical edge. An upper side of the transparent noise barrier element has a flexure, an angle of the flexure being from 30&#xb0; to 90&#xb0; from vertical, and a width of an angled region being from 5 cm to 50 cm, and an entire length of a lower side of the sheet is secured within a groove-shaped depression.

The invention relates to a solid body of plastic, glass, ceramic or metal which has at least partially a microstructured surface with rows oriented in a preferential direction of cross-sectionally trapezoidal or wedge-shaped ridges, wherein the ridges have minima and maxima in height (H) which lie in the range from 0 mm to 2 mm, and the minima and maxima follow one another periodically with amplitudes in the range from 0.005 to 20 mm, and the spacing of the rows of neighboring ridges in relation to one another is 0.002 mm to 5 mm, it being possible for the valleys between the rows to be planar, curved or tapered, and the cross-sectionally trapezoidal or wedge-shaped ridges have a wedge angle (&#x3b1;) in the range from 15 to 75&#xb0;.

The invention relates to a noise-protection wall-segment, for example for roads, motorways or railways and such like, said noise-protection wall-segment including transparent sheets, preferably a transparent plastic sheets, and means fixing the sheets. The transparent sheet is shaped around a perpendicular to the installation surface of the assembled noise-protection wall, the term 'shaping' being understood to mean vaulting and/or folding. Moreover, in the case of plastic sheets, preferably made of acrylic glass, threads of synthetic material can be embedded in the sheet which counteract splintering in the event of fracture and constitute a recognized bird impact protection device.

Substantially sulfur free thermoplastic PMMA containing molding compositions are utilized with non-ferrous metal tools for the manufacture of molded articles. The use of such molding materials having a sulfur content of less than 50 ppm reduces the wear on the non-ferrous metal tools, particularly when utilized with injection molding and pressure molding. As a result of the use of sulfur free molding masses where it necessary to utilize tools of non-ferrous metal, there is a substantial economic advantage in the use thereof.

A light-admitting plastic sheet component is used for rigid roofing. PVC or PC is chosen as the material for the plastic sheet, and the side not exposed to weathering is coated with a non-combustible material that is resistant to flying sparks and radiant heat.

Transparent plastic panels, particularly those used in noise-reducing barriers, are provided with bird-protecting means comprising plastic threads which are embedded by casting in the panels and are of such high-contrast that they can be seen by birds. The threads also prevent the panel from fracturing. Preferably the plastic threads are of black dyed polyamide and have a thickness of about 2 mm.

Noise-abatement panels of acrylic glass are secured against fragmentation by plastic threads, plastic bands or a plastic net embedded in them approximately in the middle. If the acrylic glass breaks, the threads, bands or nets hold the fragments together.
