A system, method and computer program product for estimating future axial elongation of an individual's eye as a way to predict and track refractive error progression of an individual. The method includes: receiving, via a computer interface, data relating to refractive change in a prior pre-determined time period for the individual from a reference timepoint; receiving data representing an age of the individual and data representing a current axial length value of the eye as measured at the reference timepoint; calculating, by said processor, a future axial elongation of the eye as a function of the age of the individual, the current axial length value of the eye as measured at the reference timepoint, and the refractive change in the prior pre-determined time period; generating, an output indication of said computed axial elongation of the eye, and using said output indication to select a myopia control treatment for said individual.

The present disclosure relates to ophthalmic devices such as ophthalmic lenses. An ophthalmic device may comprise an ophthalmic lens for at least one of slowing, retarding or preventing myopia progression. The ophthalmic lens may comprise a center zone with a negative power for myopic vision correction; and at least one treatment zone surrounding the center zone, the at least one treatment zone having a power profile comprising an ADD power, the at least one treatment zone having a surface shape comprising a portion of a generally toroidal shape, wherein the at least one treatment zone is arranged as to form a continuous surface with the center zone.

A method for estimating and tracking refractive error progression of an individual includes estimating a percentile of Spherical Equivalent Refraction (SPHEQ) as a function of at least the individual's age by comparison to a reference population; estimating an expected SPHEQ trajectory over a future predetermined period of time; comparing the expected SPHEQ trajectory with the reference population; and comparing the expected SPHEQ trajectory with an expected SPHEQ trajectory using an ametropia control treatment, thereby showing a possible treatment benefit over the predetermined period of time.

Contact lenses incorporate multifocal power profiles that at least one of slow, retard or preventing myopia progression. The lens includes a first zone at a center of the ophthalmic lens and at least one peripheral zone surrounding the first zone. The at least one peripheral zone has a different width and dioptric power than the first zone. The first zone and at least one peripheral zone are stepped or discontinuous. The multifocal power profile has substantially equivalent foveal vision correction to a single vision lens and has a depth of focus and reduced retinal image quality sensitivity that slows, retards, or prevents myopia progression.
