Herein is disclosed a vulcanizable rubber composition comprising a copolymer rubber constituted of ethylene, propylene and nonconjugated polyene, wherein ethylene/propylene molar ratio is 78/22 to 97/3 and the total content of propylene and nonconjugated polyene is 6 to 30% by mole in said copolymer rubber. By the use of the rubber composition of the present invention, a vulcanized product excellent in tensile strength, heat resistance, oil resistance, compression set resistance and flex behavior can be obtained. The vulcanized product can be used as automobile parts and other innumerable articles such as socket cover, heat resistant hose, electric wire, condenser cap, heat resistant belt, vibration-proof rubber, hoses, weather strip, seal sponge, black side wall of tire, etc.

An elastomeric copolymer of an aromatic vinyl compound and butadiene prepared by a solution polymerization method, which has a glass transition temperature of not less than -50.degree. C. and contains polymer chains modified with a trifunctional or tetrafunctional coupling agent, and which contains not less than 3% by weight to less than 23% by weight, based on the whole polymer chains, of polymer chains having a molecular weight of at least 5 times a molecular weight corresponding to a peak appearing on the low molecular weight side of a high performance liquid chromatogram of the elastomeric copolymer. The elastomeric copolymer has an excellent processability and shows a low rolling resistance and a high wet grip characteristic when used as a rubber component in tires.

A diene rubber composition comprising 25 to 90 parts by weight of at least one high molecular weight diene rubber (A) having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of at least 2.0 and a glass transition point of not lower than -50.degree. C. and 75 to 10 parts by weight of at least one low molecular weight diene rubber (B) having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.01 to 2.0, said composition having an average intrinsic viscosity of at least 1.8. Since this composition has an excellent wet grip and rolling resistance property and moreover has excellent processability, it is employed as tire tread rubber.

A branched polymer which is a butadiene homopolymer or a copolymer of an aromatic vinyl compound and butadiene and has a glass transition temperature of not less than -50.degree. A diene rubber composition comprising as a main rubber component an elastomeric polymer having a glass transition temperature of not less than -50.degree. C. selected from the group consisting of a butadiene homopolymer and a copolymer of butadiene and an aromatic vinyl compound, said elastomeric polymer being one prepared by a solution polymerization method and not less than 40% by weight to less than 65% by weight of the polymer chains thereof being branched polymer chains formed by coupling the polymer molecules with each other with a trifunctional or tetrafunctional coupling agent. The composition has excellent rolling resistance characteristic, wet grip characteristic, processability, tear strength and tackiness, and is suitable particularly for use in the tread portion of tires.

Diene rubber composition and tire using it in tread

A rubber composition having improved rolling resistance and wet grip characteristics with improved processability, abrasion resistance and durability which contains as a rubber component a mixture of a high molecular weight styrene-butadiene rubber having a specific microstructure and a low molecular weight styrene-butadiene and/or butadiene rubber having a specific microstructure. The composition is particularly suitable for use in tread of tires.
