A direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive material is described comprising a support having coated thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layer, wherein at least one layer of the light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layers and other hydrophilic colloid layers contains a compound represented by formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 can each represent a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, or a heterocyclic group; R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group; R.sup.4 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group, or an aromatic group; and X represents a divalent aromatic group. The direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing the above novel fogging agent compound has good preservability and provides excellent reversal photographic images in spite of changes (1) in the bromine ion concentration in a developing solution used for processing, (2) in the particle size of the internal latent image type silver halide grains, and (3) in the amount of the fogging agent employed.

Direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive material

A direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive material is described, comprising a support having coated thereon a light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layer and a hydrophilic colloid layer, at least one of said layers containing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents R.sup.6 or R.sup.6 CO--; and R.sup.6 represents an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic aromatic group or hydrogen; R.sup.2 and R.sup.4, which may be the same or different, each represents an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic aromatic group or a hydrogen atom; or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together can form a ring; R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or an aliphatic group; R.sup.5 represents Y or X--A--Y wherein X and Y, which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aromatic group; and A represents a divalent group selected from --CONH--, --NHCONH--, --SO.sub.2 NH--, --B--CONH-- and --B--SO.sub.2 NH-- wherein B represents --E--, --O--E-- or --S--E-- wherein O and S is bonded to X; and E represents a divalent aliphatic group; the compound represented by formula (I) is a fogging agent which imparts a desired fogging activity without detracting from spectral sensitization.

Direct positive silver halide light-sensitive material

A light-sensitive silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon a layer containing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic or aromatic residue; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic or an aromatic residue; and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aromatic group; and a method of forming a direct positive image which comprises processing a light-sensitive silver halide photographic material having a support carrying thereon an internal latent image type silver halide emulsion layer in the presence of the compound represented by the said formula (I). The compound is particularly effective in combination with diffusible dye releasing (DRR) compounds having o-hydroxyarylsulfamoyl groups.

A direct positive light-sensitive silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon a layer containing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic residue or an aromatic residue; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic residue, or an aromatic residue; X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aromatic residue; and Y represents --R--, --O--R or --S--R-- wherein R represents a divalent aliphatic residue and the O or S is bonded to X.sub.1. The compound is particularly effective in combination with a diffusible dye releasing dye image providing compound having an o-hydroxyarylsulfamoyl group.

A direct positive light-sensitive silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon a layer containing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic residue or an aromatic residue; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic residue, or an aromatic residue; X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aromatic residue; and Y represents ##STR2## or a direct bond wherein the O or S is bonded to X.sub.1 ; R represents a divalent aliphatic residue and R.sub.3 represents an aliphatic residue or an aromatic residue. The compound is particularly effective in combination with a diffusible dye releasing dye image providing compound having an o-hydroxyarylsulfamoyl group.

A process for forming a very contrasty negative photographic image which comprises developing a photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one layer of a negative image monodispersed silver halide photographic emulsion comprising substantially surface latent image type silver halide grains, wherein the average grain size of the silver halide grains is 0.7 micron or less, with the silver halide photographic emulsion containing a binder in an amount of 250 g or less per mol of silver halide, and at least one hydrographic colloid layer containing a compound represented by the following general formula (I):
