A ceramic porous body is provided, inclusing a plurality of pores formed in a ceramic substrate at a specified porosity. A pore part is discriminated from a non-pore part by binarizing a cross-sectional plane image of the substrate by image analysis. When a center line passing the central part of the pore part is drawn, the porosity (&#x3b5; (%)), a mean width (D(&#x3bc;m)) of the pore part represented by a mean value of a distance, between outlines specifying the pore part, perpendicular to the center line, a mean length (L (&#x3bc;m)) of the pore part represented by a mean value of a length of the center line between adjacent branch points and a length of the center line between an end of the center line and the branch point, and a mean pore size (D(&#x3bc;m)) satisfy a specified relationship.

Ceramic porous body and method for evaluating its permeability

A silicon carbide porous body of the present invention, comprising silicon carbide particles and metallic silicon bonded together in such a manner that pores are retained between the silicon carbide particles and/or between the silicon carbide particle and metallic silicon, wherein an oxide phase containing oxides of silicon, aluminum, and alkaline earth metal is buried in at least some of fine pore portions having a minimum distance of 10 &#x3bc;m or less between the surfaces of the silicon carbide particles or between the surfaces of the silicon carbide particle and metallic silicon among the pores, and a ratio of a total volume of portions in which the oxide phase is not buried among the fine pore portions is 20% or less with respect to a total volume of portions in which the oxide phase is not buried among the pores including the fine pore portions.

Silicon carbide porous body, process for producing the same and honeycomb structure

A joint body according to the invention is strong for a heat cycle and generates no local cracks. The joint body has the following features. An end portion of the metal member and the ceramic member are connected via a metal connection portion. The metal connection portion has a metallized layer formed on the ceramic member and a brazing connection portion interposing at least between the metallized layer and an end portion of the metal member. A melt point of a brazing member constructing the brazing connection portion is lower than that of a brazing member constructing the metallized layer.
