A wheel speed detector for detecting a relative rotating speed between an outer ring and an inner ring by means of a magnetic sensor in association with a magnetic ring. A stationary seal member is fixed to the stationary ring and a rotatable seal member is fixed to the rotatable ring. The seal members engage to seal a gap between the inner ring and the outer ring. The magnetic sensor is fixed to a radial inner surface of the stationary seal member and the magnetic ring is fixed to a radial outer or a radial inner surface of the rotatable seal member and surfaces of the magnetic ring other than that fixed to the radial inner surface of the rotatable seal member are covered with a seal lip.

It is an object of the invention to provide a wheel bearing having a hub which can be worked without requiring different jigs and the like depending on the position to be worked, in which it is not required to dispose a dog or the like, and which is reduced in weight. In a wheel bearing comprising a hub which is to be fixed to the side of a wheel, and an outer race which is to be fixed to the side of a vehicle body, a noncircular hole is formed in a center area of an inner side of an annular portion which is formed in the vicinity of the root of the flange of the hub which constitutes the wheel bearing, and in a side opposite to the shaft body in the axial direction.

The bearing assembly is characterized in that phosphotized film is initially formed on the surface of the projected/recessed teeth domain and then either synthetic-resinous film or molybdenum film is superposed on the phosphate film coated on the projected/recessed teeth domain. By virtue of the coating of said films, the projected/recessed teeth domain for maing up the pulser portion is further coated with synthetic-resinous film by way of superposing on the phosphate film. Thus, even when the projected/recessed teeth domain is stained by muddy water or solution containing rust-generating contaminant, the pulser portion consisting of the projected/recessed teeth domain can constantly remain free of rust during service life.
