An aqueous dispersion of an organic peroxide which contains 0.01 to 10% by weight of crystalline cellulose and optionally further contains 0.001 to 10% by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants and nonionic surfactants excels in shelf life, exhibits low viscosity, and is useful as a polymerization initiator for ethylenically unsaturated monomers.

Aqueous dispersion of organic peroxide

An aqueous suspension of a solid organic peroxide is produced by mixing a solid organic peroxide having a difference of at least 5.degree. C. between the melting point and the thermal decomposition temperature thereof with a protective colloid, a surface active agent, and water thereby forming an aqueous emulsion and subsequently cooling this aqueous emulsion.

Method for manufacture of aqueous suspension of solid organic peroxide

An aqueous emsulion of organic peroxide which is obtained by incorporating a water soluble alcohol of low molecular weight into a system which comprises an organic peroxide, an emulsifier and water, is good in the storage stability and it is capable of being transported at a low temperature.
