The file server is configured to: provide an area for storing data recognizable by each of the plurality of client terminals; determine whether to store first data into the first storage device based on an attribute of a first storage area in a case where an addition request for storing the first data into the first storage area is received from a client terminal; and transmit the addition request to the archive server. The archive server is configured to store the first data into the second storage device in a case where the addition request is received.

A file server is coupled to a plurality of user terminals and a remote file server. The file server, stores, in a storage device, data of files received from the plurality of user terminals, replicates the files to the remote file server, stubs the files stored in storage, and, upon receiving an access request from the user terminal, reads out data of the file from storage and transmits the data to the user terminal if a file related to the access request is not stubbed. If a file related to the access request is stubbed, the file server recalls data of the file from the remote file server and transmits data of the file to the user terminal. The file server replicates, to the remote file server, data of a user who performs a session disconnection request to the file server within a certain time in preference to another user.

Failure recovery method in information processing system and information processing system

The information system of the present invention is composed of multiple sites including a local file server and clients, and a data center having a center file server. When a user starts moving to a different site after using a file in the local file server through a client of any one site, the local file server replicates files of a user having the shortest predicted arrival site to a different site to a center file server preferentially based on a location information of each user. Further, at each site, files of a user having a short predicted time of arrival to its own site are downloaded based on the location information of the user.

Disclosed is a storage system that includes a first node and a second node. The first node and the second node are connected to a client and a storage device. The first node includes a first memory for cache data, receives data from the client, stores the data into the first memory, and controls the storing the content of the data into the storage device from the first memory in accordance with an instruction from the second node. The second node includes a second memory for the same cache data as the first memory. If the content of data in the storage device or the content of data in the second memory before the storing of the data is the same as the content of the data in the second memory, the second node instructs the first node not to store the content of the data into the storage device.

A first edge server which is configured to provide a first home directory performs preventive processing of preventing a first file in a first home directory from overwriting a second file in a core space prior to coping an update of the first home directory to the core space. The second file is a file that has been updated in a second home directory and copied to the core space. A storage apparatus is provided with a virtualization mechanism which manages first and second LPARs (logical partitions) assigned respectively with first and second logical resources acquired by logically partitioning physical resources in the storage apparatus. The virtualization mechanism provides a shared memory area which is an area based on a memory and can be accessed by the first and second LPARs. The first LPAR stores information required for taking over a data input/output process handled by the first LPAR to the second LPAR, in the shared memory area. When detecting that a fault occurs in the first LPAR, the second LPAR acquires the information required for taking over from the shared memory area and takes over and executes the data input/output process formerly handled by the first LPAR on the basis of the information required for taking over.

According to the prior art load distribution method, there was a drawback in that the time required from discovery of increase of load to the completion of countermeasures was long. In a file system receiving migration of data from a plurality of file devices, a plurality of virtual NAS (VNAS) is provided within the file storage subsystem, and an associated VNAS for executing data migration from file devices and accesses from clients is respectively associated with each file storage subsystem. Then, the state of each VNAS is defined based on the state of progress of data migration in the file storage subsystem. According to the defined state, load distribution among VNAS is performed.

A remote file server managing a remote storage device and a local file server managing a local storage device are coupled to a communication network (e.g. the Internet). The local file server (A) replicates a file in the local storage device to the remote file server and, (B) if a first condition is satisfied, manages the replicated file which is the file from which the data is replicated as a migration target file. The present invention removes a computer virus-infected benchmark file by re-creating the benchmark file referenced by a reference-source file. One or more clone files, which serve as reference files, reference a clone-source file, which serves as the benchmark file. In a case where it has been determined that the clone-source file is infected with a computer virus, only the clone file referencing the infected area is subjected to a virus check and repaired. A new clone-source file is configured based on the repaired clone file and the clone-source file (b). The old clone-source file, which is infected with the computer virus, is deleted (c).

In a file server for suppressing power consumption of a storage apparatus, when a file sharing program receives a file access from a client, the program references a mapping table. The program addresses the access to the target file in the volume of a RAID group where the target file is stored. A coupling-request reception program memorizes a coupling time for each user into a coupling history table. A grouping program applies a grouping to users whose coupling time-zones are similar. A data transfer program transfers, into the same RAID group, data of the files associated with the grouped users, thereby collecting the data into the same RAID group. Thus, the time-zone when no access is made to the RAID group (i.e., non-coupling time-zone) can be made longer. Accordingly, a spin-up/down request program makes a spin-down request to the RAID group in the non-coupling time-zone.

Based on a result of the comparison as well as a first preservation period set for the snapshot in the migration source and a second preservation period set for the snapshot in the migration destination, one of the following methods is selected: a first method of migrating an snapshot image, a second method of migrating snapshot data to an archive storage system, and a third method of migrating data materialized from a first differential volume, a second differential volume, and a switch snapshot.
