The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel, a backlight for illuminating the liquid crystal display panel where the outer shape of the backlight in a plane has at least one corner of which the angle is greater than 90&#xb0;, and a light guide plate LG having approximately the same form as the outer shape of the backlight, wherein a number of light emitting diodes are aligned along two sides (s, s) of the light guide plate LG that form a corner A of which the angle is greater than 90&#xb0;, and the main light for illumination (Lto L, Land L) from the light emitting diodes aligned along the two sides propagates through the light guide plate LG in the same direction.

Liquid crystal display device

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal display panel of which the outer shape in a plane has at least one corner that is not 90&#xb0; (dotted line A), and is characterized in that cushion tapes (CT, CT) are placed along the sides of the outer shape of the liquid crystal display panel between the liquid crystal display panel LCP and a frame for supporting the liquid crystal display panel, and the cushion tapes along the two sides connected to the above-described corner that is not 90&#xb0; are made to make contact with each other, and the width of an end of the cushion tape along at least one side is smaller than the width of the cushion tape along the middle of the side.

The liquid crystal display device is a liquid crystal display device having: a light guide plate for converting light from a light source into backlight for illumination; a first frame for containing the light guide plate; and a liquid crystal display panel provided over said light guide plate, wherein the liquid crystal display device further has a photosensor that is placed so as to face a sidewall of the light guide plate and detect an amount of the backlight, and the photosensor is placed so as to face the sidewall of the light guide plate through a hole or a notch created in a sidewall portion of the first frame.

A liquid crystal display panel formed by using a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate is polished to decrease the thickness thereof so that it can be curved. The liquid crystal display panel and various optical sheets are sandwiched between a frame forming a curved surface and a light guide plate forming a curved surface, to thereby form a curved surface. An upper polarizer plate and a lower polarizer plate are, respectively, sandwiched between the surface cover and the liquid crystal display panel, and between the liquid crystal display panel and the optical sheet, and are not adhered or are partly adhered to the liquid crystal display panel.

Display device

A display device includes a display panel including a substrate having electrodes for forming pixels therein, and a backlight which irradiates light to a rear surface of the display panel. The backlight has a plurality of light-emitting elements, a circuit substrate on which the plurality of light-emitting elements are arranged in array. A resin material is filled around sides of the plurality of light-emitting elements.

A liquid crystal display device which can prevent lowering of characteristics thereof when a liquid crystal display panel is bent is provided. A liquid crystal display device includes: a bent liquid crystal display panel which includes a first substrate and a second substrate which are fixed to each other by a sealing material, and liquid crystal which is hermetically filled in a space defined between the first substrate and the second substrate; and pressing members which press the first substrate and the second substrate in the direction that the first substrate and the second substrate come closer to each other. The liquid crystal display panel includes a straight line on a surface thereof and is bent along a bent line which surrounds an axis arranged parallel to the straight line. The sealing material includes non-bent portions which extend along the straight line and are not bent, and bent portions which extend along the bent line. The pressing members press the first substrate and the second substrate in regions defined between the non-bent portions of the sealing material and a display region of the liquid crystal display panel.

A liquid crystal display device includes a display panel, a backlight which radiates light to the display panel, a light emitting element which is mounted on the backlight, and a light guide plate on which light from the light emitting element is incident. The light guide plate has an upper surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface has grooves formed therein delimited by at least one surface which extends at a slant with respect to the bottom surface. A reflection sheet is provided which reflects the light radiated from the bottom surface. The grooves are formed to produce a first light which is reflected on the grooves and a second light which is radiated from the grooves and is reflected on the reflection sheet, and an asymmetric prism sheet is arranged on the light guide plate.

A panel unit is formed by sandwiching a liquid crystal display panel and a diffusion sheet between a front surface plate having a curved plane and a back surface plate having a curved plane. A light source unit is arranged on a back surface of the panel unit. The diffusion sheet is formed into an outward convex shape in the same manner as the liquid crystal display panel and hence, due to a lens action of the diffusion sheet, light from the light source unit is collected in the direction toward the center of a screen. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress a phenomenon that brightness in a periphery of the screen is reduced when the screen is viewed from a front side.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device having a linear light source, which is easily treated, in consideration of the heat radiation of a light-emitting diode in the liquid crystal display using the light-emitting diode as a light source. A light-emitting diodeis provided on a metal substrate. The metal substrateis formed in a case shape such that the heat generated at the light-emitting diodereceived in the case is efficiently radiated. A resin materialis filled in the metal case to form a plate-shaped light source. It is possible to improve reliability during the handling in the manufacturing process by filling the resin materialto form the plate-shaped light source. It is possible to improve heat radiation effect by filling the resin material

Liquid crystal display device with backlight having efficient heat radiating properties

A liquid crystal display panel includes a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate respectively formed of a glass substrate. By housing the liquid crystal display panel in the inside of a frame having a curved surface, a predetermined curved surface is imparted to a display screen. Using a direct backlight having a plurality of fluorescent lamps, distances between the respective fluorescent lamps and the liquid crystal display panel are set to a fixed value. A diffusion plate has a curved surface substantially equal to the display screen. By mounting respective optical sheets on the diffusion plate, predetermined curved surfaces are imparted to the respective optical sheets. Due to such constitution, it is possible to realize a liquid crystal display device having a curved surface without using a complicated optical system.

A panel unit is formed by sandwiching a liquid crystal display panel and a diffusion sheet between a front surface plate having a curved plane and a back surface plate having a curved plane. A light source unit is arranged on a back surface of the panel unit. In a liquid crystal display device using a light emitting diode as a light source, even when a plurality of light emitting elements are provided, an inclined surface is formed on a light guide plate as a reflection surface, and a light is converged in the liquid-crystal-panel direction using the reflection surface. In a liquid crystal display device which includes a backlight for radiating a light toward a liquid crystal panel, LEDs are formed on the light guide plate which is mounted on the backlight as light emitting elements. The plurality of LEDs are arranged along a side surface of the light guide plate, and a first reflection surface and a second reflection surface are formed on a bottom surface of the light guide plate. The second reflection surface is arranged closer to the LEDs than the first reflection surface and an angle of the second reflection surface is set larger than an angle of the first reflection surface.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device which can largely enhance a property of focusing light from a backlight. The backlight arranged on a back surface of a liquid crystal panel includes a light guide plate, a light source, a first asymmetrical prism sheet, and a second asymmetrical prism sheet. A reflection surface having an inclination of 2&#xb0; or less for guiding light from the light source toward the liquid crystal display panel is formed on a back surface of the light guide plate. The first asymmetrical prism sheet and the second asymmetrical prism sheet respectively include projecting portions which extend in the arrangement direction of the light source and are arranged in parallel to each other in the direction which intersects the arrangement direction of the light source.

The present invention makes a radiation angle of light at a portion of a light guide plate in front of an LED formed on one edge of a light guide plate and a radiation angle of light at a corner portion of the light guide plate equal to each other as much as possible. A shape of beam control elements which are arranged on a lower surface of a light guide plate is arranged concentrically about the LED.
