A method of determining an enhancement in rust-prevention of treated water by applying an electric current between a first cathode electrode and an anode electrode, and between a second cathode electrode and the anode electrode, wherein the first cathode electrode, the second cathode electrode, and the anode electrode are immersed in treated water; applying a comparative electric current between a first comparative cathode electrode and a comparative anode electrode, and between a second comparative cathode electrode and the comparative anode electrode, wherein the first comparative cathode electrode, the second comparative cathode electrode, and the at least one comparative anode electrode are immersed in untreated water; and determining an antirust effect of the treated water based on a first potential difference across the first cathode electrode and the second cathode electrode, and a second potential difference across the first comparative cathode electrode and the second comparative cathode electrode.

Method for determining antirust effect of treated water

A determination device for determining an improvement in water quality, capable of determining it in no time, is provided. The device has a first measuring device for measuring by AC terminal electric conductimetry a capacitance of a first capacitor formed between a pair of electrodes immersed in untreated water to be supplied to a water quality-improving apparatus; a second measuring device for measuring by AC terminal electric conductimetry a capacitance of a second capacitor formed between a pair of electrodes immersed in water discharged by the apparatus; and a processor for calculating a ratio (Y/X) of a capacitance Y to a capacitance X wherein the capacitance X is a capacitance of the first capacitor outputted by the first measuring device when an AC frequency is 100 Hz or less, and the capacitance Y is a capacitance of the second capacitor at the same frequency outputted by the second measuring device.

Determination device for determining an improvement in water quality

A corrosion-resistant electrode catalyst for oxygen reduction includes a main catalyst composed of at least one transition metal oxide selected from oxygen-deficient ZrO, TaO, NbO, TiO, VO, MoO, and WOand a co-catalyst composed of gold. The electrode catalyst is used in contact with an acidic electrolyte at a potential at least 0.4 V higher than the reversible hydrogen electrode potential. The catalyst may be used, for example, in such a form that the transition metal oxide in the form of fine particles and gold in the form of fine particles, or fine particles including fine gold particles coated with the transition metal oxide are dispersed on a catalyst carrier which is an electron conductive powder. This electrode catalyst is suitable as an electrode catalyst for an electrochemical system using an acidic electrolyte in the fields of water electrolysis, inorganic/organic electrolysis, fuel cells, etc.

Corrosion resistant metal oxide electrode catalyst for oxygen reduction

An electrode catalyst that maintains catalytic activity under conditions of an electrode potential as high as 0.4 V or above and exhibits improved stability. The metal oxynitride electrode catalyst is composed of an oxynitride containing at least one transition metal element selected from the group consisting of La, Ta, Nb, Ti, and Zr, the metal oxynitride electrode catalyst being used at a potential of 0.4 V or higher relative to the reversible hydrogen electrode potential in an acidic electrolyte. The metal oxynitride electrode catalyst is useful as an electrode catalyst for electrochemical systems used in acidic electrolytes in the fields of water electrolysis, organic electrolysis, fuel cells, etc.
