The present invention provides a silver halide color photographic photosensitive material that includes coupler-containing sensitive emulsion layer units on a support. Each of the photosensitive emulsion layer units are constituted of at least two photosensitive emulsion layers having sensitivities which are different from each other. An emulsion layer of the highest sensitivity among the at least two photosensitive emulsion layers contains at least one silver halide emulsion in which tabular silver halide grains with an average aspect ratio of 3 or more substantially including dislocation lines account for 50% or more of the total projected areas. Photosensitive emulsion layers other than the emulsion layer of the highest sensitivity consist of a silver halide emulsion containing silver halide grains that account for 70% or more of the total projected areas and include host grains that satisfy a specific aspect ratio condition and epitaxially joined protrusions.

A monodispersed silver halide emulsion has an average silver iodide content of 1 to 20 mol %, an average equivalent sphere diameter of 0.1 to 0.6 .mu.m, and 60% or more of the total projected area of all the grains in the emulsion are occupied by tabular silver halide grains each having principal planes composed of {100} faces in an amount of 80% or more based on the total surface area of each grain.

There is disclosed a light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion, which comprises light-sensitive silver halide grains mainly composed of (100) planes and (111) planes, at least one compound that is adsorbed selectively on the (100) planes of the silver halide grains, and at least one spectrally sensitizing dye. A method for producing a silver halide emulsion, said method comprising: adding silver nitrate to a halogen compound to form an emulsion grain; and doping a non-labile selenium compound in an amount, in terms of selenium added, of from 1.0.times.10.sup.-8 to 1.0.times.10.sup.-6 mol per a unit surface area of 1 m.sup.2 of said emulsion grain, at the time when from 10 to 49% of the total silver amount used for the formation of said emulsion grain is added.
