A catalyst or a catalyst structure for removing nitrogen oxides contained in exhaust gases, having a small pressure loss and hard to cause ash deposition, and a process for producing the same are provided, which catalyst comprises a mixture of a catalyst composition of titanium oxide and at least one member of oxides of vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten, and inorganic fibers, the clearances of the inorganic fibers are filled with said catalyst composition; the ration by weight of said catalyst composition to said inorganic fibers is 3 or more; and the apparent density of said catalyst is 0.8 g/cm.sup.3 or more; and which process comprises providing a composition containing titanium oxide and at least one member of oxides of vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten, calcining said composition at 500.degree.-650.degree. C., crushing the calcined material so that powder of 20.mu. or less can occupy 90% by weight or more of the crushed material, adding water to the crushed material to form a slurry, impregnating an inorganic fiber sheet with the above slurry, placing the resulting sheet between porous molds, drying and molding it, and clacining the resulting molded material at 300.degree.-650.degree. C.

A plate-shaped catalyst for denitration of exhaust gases has a surface roughened expanded metal base strip that is coated on both surfaces with a catalytic layer. Conical convex and concave portions adjoining one another are pressed into the coated strip, and the surfaces of the coated layer are formed with wave-shapes having a predetermined pitch without substantially deforming the expanded metal strip. The plate-shaped catalysts are stacked on one another to form a catalytic unit using the convex and concave portions as spacers.

Plate-shaped catalyst and method of producing same

A process for calcining a sulfate-containing denitrating catalyst to reduce the sulfate content therein is provided. A plurality of catalyst units are arranged on a reticulating belt in a calcining furnace. The reticulate belt is continuously moving within the furnace. Fresh hot air is passed through the denitrating catalyst units in a first direction and then in a second direction. By controlling the rate of hot air flow, the content of sulfate group in the denitrating catalyst is reduced to about 4-7% by weight.

A system for continuously producing plate-shaped catalysts includes a mold press machine for press-molding a belt-shaped catalyst into a predetermined form. Two pairs of reciprocating grip delivery mechanisms are provided at the downstream side of the mold press machine. A cutting device is provided at the downstream side of the pair of belt-shaped catalyst grip delivery mechanisms. The length of the catalyst is detected after it passes through a cutting device. The cutting device is operated in response to a signal from the length detector. Control of the grip and delivery mechanisms includes performing a pass of delivery of the plate-shaped catalyst and release of the gripping mechanisms as necessary during cutting of the plate-shaped catalyst. The mold press can be operated continuously and the cutting is performed to always produce plate-shaped catalyst members having the predetermined length.

System for continuously producing plate-shaped catalysts

There is proposed a process of continuously producing a catalyst plate, wherein a thin metal plate is formed by use of a blade with slits in the widthwise directions thereof, expanded in the longitudinal direction thereof into an expanded metal plate having formed therein meshes, the expanded metal plate thus formed is corrected in shape, degreased, thereafter, molten metal such as molen aluminum is sprayed onto the expanded metal plate to form roughened surfaces on the opposite sides of the expanded metal plate, further, a catalytic substance is deposited onto the roughened surfaces, thereafter, formed into a predetermined form, and shorn into pieces. There is proposed a pinch roll system having a tension roll, in which end portions in the widthwise direction are vertically movable so as to be used as a corrector for the expanded metal plate, and a stepping press system to be used as a former for the expanded metal plate.

The present invention relates to a plate-shaped catalyst unit for NOx reduction of exhaust gas, wherein molten metal is sprayed upon surfaces of a metal plate allowing the molten metal to accumulate thereon to form rough surfaces, and the rough surfaces thus obtained are deposited with a catalytic substance for NOx reduction of exhaust gas. The catalyst units thus obtained are each disposed in parallel with the gas flow, and generally arranged across the gas flow and at intervals in the catalytic reactor which is placed in an exhaust gas duct and used as an apparatus for nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction of exhaust gas.
