An electronically controlled automatic transmission system for applying and releasing clutches and brakes when the gears for the speed ranges are to be shifted or changed in accordance with the drive torque of the engine. Each brake and clutch is controlled by a solenoid valve and a manual valve. The manual valves control the application of fluid pressure to the clutches and the brakes. Each manual valve has a separate solenoid valve which controls the manual valve in accordance with the detected value of the driving force of the engine. In a drive control apparatus for an electric actuator to be activated under control of a changeover switch, the drive control apparatus including a power transistor arranged to supply therethrough the power to the electric actuator from an electric power source in response to operation of the changeover switch, a presumptive temperature of the power transistor is previously memorized and renewed in consideration with an increment of temperature change caused by consumption of the power when the electric actuator has been activated. The presumptive temperature is further renewed in consideration with a decrement of temperature change caused by lapse of time after the electric actuator has been deactivated. The power supply to the electric actuator is permitted only when the presumptive temperature is lower than a predetermined value. When the presumptive temperature becomes higher than the predetermined value, the power supply to the electric actuator is prohibited.

A suspension pressure control system applies a pressure which is proportional to a current level supplied to a solenoid of a pressure control valve to a shock absorber associated with a suspension from the valve. When a pressure in a high pressure line which feeds a high pressure to the pressure control valve falls (rises), the pressure applied to the suspension is decreased (increased). Accordingly, the pressure in the high pressure line is detected by a sensor, and if it is low (high), the current level of the pressure control valve is corrected to a high value (low value). In order to prevent an abnormal pressure rise in the suspension which may be caused by an excessive pressure rise in the high pressure line during an idling operation of an engine, a correction which responds to the pressure of the high pressure line is chosen large when a vehicle speed is equal to zero or very low. In order to prevent an abnormality from occurring in the correction of the pressure which is attributable to an errorneous detected value during a failure of operation of sensor, such detected value is determined to be faulty, and in the event a fault occurred, the correction is modified to a given volume (0) which is allocated to a standard pressure in the high pressure line.

A constant-speed running controller for maintaining the running speed of a vehicle at a fixed level by regulating the degree of opening of the throttle valve of the vehicle. The constant-speed running controller comprises speed detectors for detecting the running speed of the vehicle, a shift position detecting switch for detecting the shift position of the shift lever, a mode selecting switch for switching the running mode of the vehicle between an automatic speed change control mode and an automatic speed change constant-speed running control mode, a throttle opening degree detector for detecting the degree of opening of the throttle valve, a brake switch for detecting the application of the brake system, a target running speed setting switch, a resume switch for restarting the previously established constant-speed running control mode, a constant-speed running mode selecting switch for selecting the constant-speed running control function, a microcomputer for processing data received from the foregoing switches and detectors and giving control signals to the functional devices for regulating the running speed of the vehicle. An effective target running speed for constant-speed running is determined on the basis of a temporary target running speed, an average running speed obtained by processing sample running speeds sampled in a predetermined time interval, and the difference between the temporary target running speed and the average running speed.

A controlling device for an automatic speed change mechanism is capable of preventing a sudden acceleration of an automobile against the intention of the driver. The device includes a shift position detector for emitting electric signals indicating the selection state of a manual shift device; a braking detector for emitting electric signals corresponding to the actuation/non-actuation of a braking device; and an electronic controlling device which monitors the electric signals emitted by said shift position detector and said braking detector, controls the said shifting device corresponding to the selection state of a manual shifting device to switch over the connection mode of the speed change mechanism, and during the non-actuation of the braking device, if the manual shifting device commands a switch-over from the non-connection mode to a connection mode, establishes a connection mode having a relatively small reduction ratio compared with the case of brake actuation.
