The invention relates to an encapsulated electrically driven compressor for a motor vehicle and has an object to prevent electrical parts for connecting an electric motor housed in a hermetically sealed housing to an outside electric control circuit from being easily contacted with liquid-phase refrigerant, which has a higher electrical conductive property than gas-phase refrigerant. According to one of features of the present invention, an encapsulated electrically driven compressor comprises a hermetically sealed housing, a compressor device for compressing refrigerant of a refrigerating cycle, an electric motor for driving the compressor device, and a connecting device having a terminal casing for covering electrical conductive terminal portions which connect the electric motor with an outside electric control circuit, wherein the compressor device, the electric motor and the connecting device are encapsulated in the hermetically sealed housing. The terminal casing is air-tightly fixed to a side wall of the housing and a small opening is formed in the terminal casing at a position which is lower than a position of the electrical conductive terminal portions by a predetermined distance (in a downward direction towards an inside space of the hermetically sealed housing).

Encapsulated electrically driven compressor

An enclosed-configuration electrically powered compressor has an electric motor with a segment-type stator coil that is directly cooled by a flow of refrigerant from an intake aperture in the casing, directed onto one or both of the coil end portions of the stator coil. Each coil segment is formed of a U-shaped conductor having rectangular cross-section, with each coil end portion having regular spaces formed between the conductors such as to present low resistance to the flow of refrigerant, with the refrigerant also flowing through the rotor/stator air gap of the motor.

An electric motor in which magnetic steel sheets and stator end plates are laminated, wherein notches are formed in slot portions in the stator end plates to prevent part of conductive segments coming into direct contact with the stator end plates or the like, when cracks appear in the insulation paper when the conductive segments comprising flat copper wire forming a coil are inserted into the slot portions formed in a stator core and leg portions protruding from the slot portions are being folded.

Electric motor

An electric motor for wholly sealed compressors using, as a coolant, HFC-134a and using, as a refrigerator oil, a polyalkylene glycol oil, a polyol ester oil or a polyvinyl ether oil, and having a structure in which the free conductors are firmly secured and insulated with an insulating material which is chemically stable and has excellent insulating property. A plurality of free conductors are insulted from and secured to each other with an epoxy resin and, preferably, with a powdery epoxy resin. The powdery epoxy resin is particularly effective in insulating the coil ends of the electric motor for sealed compressors provided with a stator in which a coil wound on the stator core is constituted by a plurality of conductor segments, and the ends (coil ends) of the conductor segments protruding beyond the core are joined to each other to form the coil.
