An engine cooling device including a water pump, a radiator, an exhaust heat recovery unit, and a coolant circulation circuit for circulating a coolant in these apparatuses includes a flow rate limiting means that limits the flow rate of the coolant that circulates in the exhaust heat recovery unit in the case where a temperature of a sensor element of an A/F sensor, that is disposed downstream of the exhaust heat recovery unit in an exhaust path, is below a preset activation temperature. An extent of opening of a second switching valve is made smaller in the case where the temperature of the sensor element is below the activation temperature than in the case where the temperature is equal to or higher than the activation temperature.

Engine cooling device

The disclosed internal combustion engine has an electric water pump and a water temperature sensor that detects coolant water temperature. An electronic control device stops the driving of the water pump when the coolant water temperature is lower than a baseline temperature. Meanwhile, the electronic control device drives the water pump in accordance with the coolant water temperature when the coolant water temperature is higher than the baseline temperature. When the driving of the water pump is stopped, the internal combustion engine forbids at least one engine control until the water pump is driven.

A cooling apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an engine cooling system that includes a water jacket, a radiator, and a circulation passage through which a coolant is circulated between the water jacket and the radiator, wherein the coolant is provided in the engine cooling system; a water pump that forcibly circulates the coolant provided in the engine cooling system when the water pump is operated; a reservoir tank in which the coolant is reserved, and into which gas flows from the engine cooling system while the reserved coolant flows out to the engine cooling system from the reservoir tank; and a forcible introduction portion that forcibly introduces the coolant from the reservoir tank into the engine cooling system before the internal combustion engine is started.

An engine coolant amount determining apparatus includes an electric water pump that can be operated intermittently while an engine is running, and a coolant temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature of coolant at a location higher than the water pump. The engine coolant amount determining apparatus also includes determining means for determining that the amount of coolant is equal to or less than a predetermined amount when the degree of change in the coolant temperature detected by the coolant temperature detecting means when the water pump is operated intermittently is large.

The invention provides a PCV system for a V-type engine, where an oilmist extraction port, through which oilmist to be supplied to an oil separator is taken out from the engine, is formed at a position corresponding to the lateral center of the top portion of a chain case of the engine, and the oil separator has an oil discharge hole, and is connected to a PCV valve. A rib, which extends from the floor wall of the oil separator toward a wall opposite to the floor wall, is arranged inside the oil separator. Limitation of the opening rate of the throttle valve is prohibited unless the following conditions have been all satisfied: (i) the engine speed detected at starting opening the throttle valve is below a prescribed speed; (ii) the throttle angle detected at starting opening the throttle valve is below a prescribed throttle angle; (iii) the target throttle-open angle is above a prescribed throttle-open angle; and (ix) the target opening rate of the throttle valve is above a prescribed opening rate.
