In a tire, an inclination angle of a cord included in a second belt layer with respect to a tire width direction is defined as a positive inclination angle in a tire see-through plan view, an intersection point between a perpendicular line drawn from an end portion of a belt layer having a maximum belt width in the tire width direction to a carcass and a cord of an outermost carcass layer in a tire radial direction is defined as a first reference point in a tire meridian cross-sectional view, and an inclination angle of the cord with respect to the tire width direction at the first reference point is −3° or more in the tire see-through plan view.

According to one embodiment, a graphene photodetector includes a substrate, a first insulating film, first and second high-refractive-index regions, first and second conductive semiconductor regions, a second insulating film, a graphene film, a third insulating film, third and fourth high-refractive-index regions, a fourth insulating film, first and second electrodes, and third and fourth electrodes. The first, second, third and fourth high-refractive-index regions and portions sandwiched by the first, second, third and fourth high-refractive-index regions constituting an integrated optical waveguide.

Graphene photodetector and graphene optical modulator

A semiconductor laser device in an embodiment includes a compound semiconductor layer and a silicon layer. The compound semiconductor layer includes an active layer emitting laser light and has a first mesa structure. The silicon layer is bonded with the compound semiconductor layer. A diffraction grating is provided on a surface of the silicon layer which faces the compound semiconductor layer, and includes a main diffraction grating and two sub-diffraction gratings. The main diffraction grating extends in a longitudinal direction of the first mesa structure; the sub-diffraction gratings are disposed on both sides of the main diffraction grating.

Optical device and manufacturing method thereof

An optical modulation device of an embodiment includes: a first p-type semiconductor region; a first n-type semiconductor region; a first low-impurity-density semiconductor region formed between the first p-type semiconductor region and the first n-type semiconductor region; a second n-type semiconductor region formed on an outer side of the first p-type semiconductor region via a second low-impurity-density semiconductor region; and a second p-type semiconductor region formed on an outer side of the first n-type semiconductor region via a third low-impurity-density semiconductor region. The carrier density in the first low-impurity-density semiconductor region is changed by current injection. The phase of light propagated through an optical waveguide structure that includes at least part of the first low-impurity-density semiconductor region is modulated.

Optical modulation device

An athermal ring optical modulator includes a first clad layer, a ring optical resonator, a second clad layer, an input-output optical waveguide, a first conduction type region, and a second conduction type region. The ring optical resonator has a rib optical waveguide with a convex portion formed on a semiconductor slab layer. The semiconductor slab layer is formed on the first clad layer. The second clad layer covers an upper side of the rib optical waveguide. The input-output optical waveguide couples optically with the ring optical resonator. The first and second conduction type regions are formed in the semiconductor slab layer inside and outside the ring optical resonator, respectively. In addition, the second clad layer includes a material having a negative thermo-optical coefficient. The semiconductor slab layer outside the convex portion is thinner than the semiconductor slab layer inside the convex portion.

Athermal ring optical modulator

A semiconductor laser of an embodiment includes: an optical resonator having a first cladding layer, a ring-shaped active layer on the first cladding layer, a ring-shaped second cladding layer on the active layer, a first electrode inside the ring shape on the first cladding layer, a ring-shaped second electrode on the second cladding layer, a first insulating layer between the first cladding layer and the active layer, formed from an inside wall toward an outside wall of the ring shape, where an outside wall side edge thereof is on an inner side than the outside wall, and a second insulating layer between the active layer and the second cladding layer, formed from the inside wall toward the outside wall, where an outside wall side edge thereof is on an inner side than the outside wall; and an optical waveguide optically coupled to the optical resonator.

Provided is an optical device that includes a ring-shaped optical waveguide and an input/output optical waveguide, and that changes a resonant wavelength of the ring-shaped optical waveguide, in which the ring-shaped optical waveguide includes in part a refractive index control section for controlling a refractive index at a guided wavelength, and the refractive index control section is formed of an optical material having a thermo-optic effect with its sign different from that of an optical material that forms a section of the ring-shaped optical waveguide other than the refractive index control section.

Optical device, method for manufacturing the same and optical integrated device using the same

The overall material constant of a composite material is computed where the composite material includes multiple kinds of material components in a matrix phase, each of the material constants of the material components and the matrix phase being known. First, for the composite material, an equation, having the material constant of a virtual composite material as an unknown, is prepared by defining the virtual composite material in which each of the material components is dispersed in a form of spherical particles in the matrix phase at a known volume fractions. Next, the overall material constant of the virtual composite material is found as the overall material constant of the composite material by solving the equation. In this case, the equation is a recursive equation which is obtained using the self-consistent method. The volume fraction of a material component in the composite material is computed using the equation.

In a method of computing the overall material constant of a composite material, a virtual composite material is defined as the one that a first material component is dispersed in a form of inner spherical particles in a matrix phase and each of the inner spherical particles is enveloped by the second material component, in a form of outer shell layers, as a coating layer. Based on this, a nonlinear equation is prepared, which has the material constant of the virtual composite material as an unknown. Next, the material constant of the virtual composite material is computed by solving the equation. In the equation, the material constant in each of the surrounding areas of the outer shell layers coating the inner spherical particles is defined as the overall material constant of the virtual composite material to be computed. The volume fractions of the material components in the composite material are computed using the equation.

The present invention provides a pneumatic tire that inhibits any fatigue rupture at an edge portion of a circumferential-direction reinforcing belt layer and also inhibits any separation at an edge portion of crossed belt layers. In the pneumatic tire, at least two crossed belt layers are disposed on the outer circumferential side of a carcass layer in a tread portion. At least one circumferential-direction reinforcing belt layer with a width smaller than those of the crossed belt layers is disposed between the crossed belt layers. Moreover, a stress relaxation layer of a rubber composition having a fixed thickness is disposed between the crossed belt layers while lying adjacent to an edge portion of and outside, in the width directions of, the circumferential-direction reinforcing belt layer.

Pneumatic tire

In computing the overall material constant of a composite material, a virtual composite material is defined as the one that predetermined material components are dispersed in a form of spherical particles in a matrix phase at known volume fractions, and a nonlinear equation having the overall material constant of the virtual composite material as an unknown is prepared. Next, the overall material constant of the composite material is computed by solving the nonlinear equation. The nonlinear equation is a recursive nonlinear equation which is obtained by defining the material constant in the surrounding areas of the spherical particles as the overall material constant of the composite material to be computed. The volume fraction of a material component dispersed in the composite material is computed using the recursive nonlinear equation.
