A freezing apparatus for an artificial liver which has gas phase pressurizing means for pressurizing liquid helium coupled to a chamber for storing the liquid helium, a helium gas conduit dipped in the liquid helium passed through the chamber to be closed and contained, in which the liver fine pieces are telescopically received and an exhaust conduit provided with a control valve coupled to the freezing chamber. And, a freezing vessel for an artificial liver which has a flow conduit capable of being coupled to an upper portion and a lower portion of a unit, an upper coupling port and a lower coupling port respectively formed therethrough with closing plugs, two or more mesh plates laterally laid elevationally in the unit, and exit opening in to a containing chamber thus formed.

An apparatus for continuously freezing liver pieces which comprises a freezing box having an inlet and an outlet, a conveyor movable from the inlet to the outlet of the freezing box and having a mesh belt, a number of nozzles provided laterally through the box at the upside of the mesh belt of the conveyor for blowing gaseous helium, a supplying guide portion formed at the head of the inlet at the upside of the mesh belt for supplying and placing the liver pieces, a rotatable roller journaled at the striking-off and exhausting portion disposed inside the striking-off and exhausting portion at the head of the outlet at the upside of the mesh belt in an outside contacting state laterally of the mesh belt, the roller having a number of striking-off projections projected from the surface thereof for striking-off the frozen liver pieces on the mesh belt by the insertion of the projections into the mesh belt. Thus, the apparatus can efficiently freeze the liver piece instantaneously without irregularity by instantaneously blowing helium gas in contact with the liver piece to obtain a frozen liver capable of performing the function of the liver at the thawed time.

A method of preserving an organ which comprises a first perfusing step of injecting blood uniform i.e., perfusing choline from an artery or portal vein of the excised organ while gradually lowering its temperature and exhausting it from the vein, continuing until the liquid is lowered to the first proximity of a low temperature before its solidifying temperature, second perfusing step of perfusing refrigerating defect-preventing dimethyl sulfoxide or glycerin agent instead of the blood perfusing liquid while gradually lowering the temperature from the first proximity of a low temperature continuing until the agent becomes the second proximity lowering temperature before its solidifying temperature, third perfusing step of perfusing the final perfusing liquid of low solidifying temperature lower than alcohol or ether instead of the agent while gradually lowering the temperature of the liquid from the second proximity of a low temperature and continuing until the liquid reaches the third proximity of a low temperature before its solidfying temperature, or until the liquid is frozen.

A method of freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like which has the steps of containing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like in a buffer solution at an irregular position in a tube, and cooling the same so that a buffer solution contained in the area containing no fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like become lower in temperature than the buffer solution containing the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like with a desired refrigerant to freeze the second buffer solution to produce crystalline nuclei, and then cooling the nuclei so that the nuclei grow to the first buffer solution. And, an apparatus for freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like which can carry out the above method. Thus, the survival rate of the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like can be raised, and the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like can be readily frozen under an automatic control by simple cooling means.

Method of freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like and apparatus

An apparatus for freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like has a heat transfer bottom board block formed at the lower end of a heat insulating peripheral wall with a lower refrigerant passage capable of flowing refrigerant. A bottom board temperature sensor is attached to the bottom board block, an upper heat transfer block is placed on the bottom board block through a heat insulating joint member, formed with an upper refrigerant passage for flowing the refrigerant. A temperature control heater, an upper block temperature sensor, a plurality of erecting tube charging spaces of tubes opened at the top thereof with the bottom board block as a bottom member are disposed between the peripheral wall and the upper block in such a manner that the tubes erected and charged into the spaces are cooled at the lower ends thereof by said bottom board block and at the upper part containing articles to be frozen such as fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like are contained in buffer solution in said tubes. Thus, the buffer solutions in the tubes can be controlled to be cooled at the buffer solution of the lower noncontaining part by the bottom board block and the buffer solution of the containing part above the buffer solution of the lower noncontaining part by the upper block.

A method of preserving an organ which comprises first perfusing step of injecting blood uniformly perfusing choline from an artery or portal vein of the excised organ while gradually lowering its temperature and exhausting it from the vein continuing until the liquid is lowered to the first proximity lowering temperature before its solidifying temperature, second perfusing step of perfusing refrigerating defect preventing dimethyl sulfoxide or glycerin instead of the blood uniformly perfusing liquid while gradually lowering its temperature from the first proximity lowering temperature continuing until the agent becomes the second proximity lowering temperature before its solidifying temperature, third perfusing step of perfusing the final perfusing liquid of low solidifying temperature lower than alcohol or ether instead of the agent while gradually lowering the liquid from the second proximity lowering temperature continuing until the liquid becomes the third proximity lowering temperature before its solidifying temperature, or until the liquid is frozen.

A method of freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like which has the steps of containing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like in a buffer solution at an irregular position in a tube, and cooling the same so that a buffer solution contained in an area containing no fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like become lower in temperature than the buffer solution containing the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like with a desired refrigerant to freeze the second buffer solution to produce crystalline nuclei, and then cooling the nuclei so that the nuclei grow to the first buffer solution. And, an apparatus for freezing fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like which can carry out the above method. Thus, the survival rate of the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like can be raised, and the fertilized ova, spermatozoa or the like can be readily frozen under an automatic control by simple cooling means.
