Method of manufacturing a field pole magnet

A cell of a fuel cell includes a membrane electrode assembly, and metal first and second separators which sandwich the membrane electrode assembly to form gas flow paths disposed on each side of the membrane electrode assembly. A back surface of the first separator and a back surface of the second separator, the first separator and the second separator being included in adjacent cells, are in contact with each other, thereby forming a temperature-control medium flow path between the first separator and the second separator. In the first separator and the second separator, corrosion-resistant coating layers are provided only on reaction-side surfaces of the first separator and the second separator, the reaction-side surfaces facing the membrane electrode assembly, and portions where the back surface of the first separator is in contact with the back surface of the second separator are joined by welded portions.

Fuel cell stack and method of producing its separator plates

A fuel cell stack and method of manufacturing a fuel cell stack having a highly anti-corrosive property. The fuel cell stack includes a plurality of cells constructed by interposing an electrolyte membrane electrode assembly between the first and second separators. The first and second separators define gas passages on from both sides of the electrolyte membrane electrode assembly, and a gas manifold is in fluid communication with the gas flow passages through the plurality of stacked cells. Manifold openings for defining the gas manifold are formed in the first and second separators, and the opening areas of the manifold openings are differently sized. The manifold opening inner peripheral end of the first separator has a larger opening area, and is welded to the second separator to form a manifold welding portion.

Fuel cell, fuel cell stack and method of manufacturing the same

A continuously variable belt drive transmission, including input and output pulleys each having axially opposed tapered surfaces, and an endless belt including a plurality of metal elements each having opposed side faces contacted with the respective tapered surfaces of the input and output pulleys. Each of the opposed side faces is formed with a plurality of microscopic projections and recesses arranged along a radial direction of the input and output pulleys upon being in contact with the respective tapered surfaces of the input and output pulleys. The tapered surfaces of at least the input pulley are formed with microgrooves that are radially spaced from one another and have a pitch not more than a width of each of the microscopic projections on the side faces of the metal element.

Continuously variable belt drive transmission

A rolling bearing used in a system including an automotive power train and a peripheral auxiliary equipment of the power train, and in a compressor. The rolling bearing comprises a first race and a second race. A rolling element is rotatably disposed between the first and second races. A film whose main component is a metal selected from the group consisting of nickel and copper has a thickness ranging from 0.1 to 15 &#x3bc;m. The film is formed on a surface of at least one of the first race, the second race and the rolling element.

Rolling bearing

A rotary member such as a member of a bearing, a rotating member of a transmission or a gear for a motor vehicle, includes a base region of a ferrous base material such as a steel. The rotary member is formed with a hydrogen blocking layer formed in a contact surface for contacting with a mating body in a relative motion. The hydrogen blocking layer includes a concentrated portion formed in the base region and made of a substance lower in hydrogen diffusion coefficient than the base material.

A high bearing pressure-resistant member used as a rolling element forming part of a toroidal continuously variable transmission for an automotive vehicle. The high bearing pressure-resistant member is formed of a mechanical structural steel containing Cr. The mechanical structural steel includes a matrix having at least one of martensite structure and bainite structure. The matrix contains carbide having a mean particle size of 3 &mgr;m or less, dispersed and precipitated in form of at least one of generally spheres and pseudo-spheres.

A method of manufacturing a traction roller for a continuously variable transmission comprises placing a layer on a hollow cylindrical material having the volume substantially equal to the traction roller, performing axial pressure forging of the cylindrical material to obtain a work having the axial length substantially equal to that of the traction roller, performing axial die forging of the work to form side wall and outer peripheral surface of the traction roller, and grinding the work subjected to die forging to obtain a finished product of the traction roller.

Method of manufacturing traction rollers for continuously variable transmissions and traction rollers resulting therefrom

The invention relates to a power roller used for a toroidal-type continuously variable transmission. This power roller has on its first side a groove for receiving a bearing, and the surface of the groove (bearing surface) has a carbon concentration which is not lower than that of the back surface of a second side opposed to the first side. The power roller has a hardened outer layer having first and second portions which are respectively defined by the bearing surface and the back surface. The first portion of the hardened outer layer has an effective depth which is not shallower than that of the second portion thereof. The power roller is prepared by the sequential steps of surface-hardening, quenching, and grinding. The surface-hardening process is one of carburizing and carbonitriding. The grinding includes the sequential steps of: (1) grinding at least one of first and second outer portions a quenched preform of the power roller to remove the same, such that there is obtained a datum that is at least one of the surface of the groove and the inner flat surface which are respectively exposed by removing the first and second outer portions; and (2) grinding a third outer portion of the quenched preform, based on the datum, thereby to remove the third outer portion. The bearing surface of the power roller becomes high in carbon concentration, and the first portion of the hardened outer layer of the power roller becomes sufficiently deep in effective thickness.
