In a cross section of the gas sensor element which is perpendicular to its lengthwise direction and through which all first to fourth lead portions penetrate, when the cross section is bisected into two regions with respect to the width direction of the gas sensor element, the first lead portion and the fourth lead portion are disposed in one of the regions and the second lead portion and the third lead portion are disposed in the other region, and the second lead portion and the third lead portion are disposed so as to be spaced apart from each other in the width direction with no overlap as viewed in a stacking direction.

Gas sensor element, gas sensor, and method of manufacturing gas sensor element

A gas sensor element includes a laminate formed of a detecting element section and a heater section, and a porous protection layer covering a forward end portion of the laminate. The detecting element section has one or more cells having a solid electrolyte body and a pair of electrodes. The heater section has a heater. Side surfaces of the solid electrolyte bodies in parallel with the direction of lamination are covered with dense insulating members. The cell-to-be-controlled is temperature controlled by the heater to 600&#xb0; C. to 830&#xb0; C. The porous protection layer is formed on the laminate from a forward end portion to a region which has a temperature of 500&#xb0; C. or higher when the temperature control is performed, and the porous protection layer is not formed in a region which has a temperature of 300&#xb0; C. or lower when the temperature control is performed.

A gas sensor including a detection element having a stacked structure configured to detect a specified gas component contained in a gas to be detected. The detection element includes: a sensing portion including one or more solid electrolyte layers containing a first material as a main component and having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface; a first portion stacked on the first surface and including one or more first base layers containing a second material as a main component different from the first material; and a second portion stacked on the second surface and including one or more second base layers containing the second material. A total thickness of the one or more second base layers in a stacking direction is not less than 80% but not more than 120% of a total thickness of the one or more first base layers.

This invention provides a gas sensing device and gas sensor including a porous portion in which a first porous portion absorbs phosphorus and silicone sufficiently so as to suppress generation of clogging in a second porous portion meeting demands for intensifying the performance and accuracy of a gas sensor, so that the accuracy of detection of air-fuel ratio is further improved.

A gas sensor element including: a solid electrolyte layer having a first surface and a second surface; a first electrode formed on the first surface of the solid electrolyte layer; a second electrode formed on the second surface of the solid electrolyte layer; and an insulating layer provided between the first electrode and the first surface of the solid electrolyte layer. The insulating layer covers an outer edge of the first electrode and has an opening through which a portion of the first electrode is exposed. The opening has an area that is smaller than that of the second electrode, and is provided at a position opposite the second electrode to form a detection portion constituted by the portion of the first electrode exposed through the opening, the second electrode and the solid electrolyte layer.
