A cooling pipe for an internal combustion engine includes with a resin-made water outlet for forming a circulation path for circulating a coolant for cooling an engine body, and an attachment part for retaining a water temperature sensor for sensing the temperature of the coolant flowing through the water outlet, the attachment part being attached to the water outlet, a portion of the attachment part being in contact with the engine body, and the attachment part formed from a material whereby heat from the engine body is transmitted.

The position of a passage separating member in the axial direction of the cylinder bores is determined by causing a spacer to contact a bottom surface of a water jacket. When the separating member is inserted in the water jacket, the width of the separating member is reduced due to elastic deformation, so that the separating member can be arranged in the water jacket. After being arranged, the separating member tightly contacts the inner surface of the water jacket due to elastic restoration force. The tight contact prevents the separating member from moving upward in the water jacket. As a result, coolant is prevented from moving between the upper portion and the lower portion with respect to the separating member. The advantages of separate cooling of the coolant in the upper and lower portions with respect to the separating member are obtained. This reliably reduces the temperature difference along the axial direction of the cylinder bore forming body.

A production method of a water jacket spacer for use in a cylinder block with a water jacket formed around plural cylinder bores. The method comprises the fist step of integrally forming a tubular spacer body with a peripheral wall and a connecting bridge by way of synthetic resin molding so that corresponding regions of the peripheral wall are connected to each other via the connecting bridge, and the second step of cooling the tubular spacer body, with the connecting bridge fixed thereto, to prevent deformation of the tubular spacer body during the cooling process, and the third step of removing the connecting bridge from the tubular spacer body.

Production method of water jacket spacer

A longitudinally-endless gasket mounted into a groove portion formed in one of members to provide sealing between this one member and another of the members when they are fastened to each other. The gasket has a sectional shape corresponding to a sectional shape of the groove portion with a ratio (H/W) between a height (H) and a width (W) of the sectional shape being 0.8 to 5.0. The gasket is provided with a plurality of large projecting portions at intervals of 30 to 100 mm and a plurality of small projecting portions at intervals of 5 to 15 mm in a longitudinal direction of the gasket. A width (R) of each large projecting portion is larger than a width (X) of the groove portion by 0.01 to 0.9 mm. A width (R) of each small projecting portion is smaller than the width (X) of the groove portion by 0.01 to 0.6 mm. A filling rate of the groove portion by the gasket when the members are fastened to each other is 80 to 100%.
