A thermal medium and a laser recording device are provided in which medium parameters can be acquired efficiently. According to one embodiment, the thermal medium includes a photothermal conversion layer, a color development layer, a storage mechanism. The photothermal conversion layer converts an applied laser beam into heat. The color development layer develops a color by the heat converted by the photothermal conversion layer. The storage mechanism stores information related to a medium parameter including a photothermal conversion efficiency of the photothermal conversion layer.

A recording medium according to an embodiment includes a base material; a first color developing layer that is laminated on the base material, and absorbs light having a given wavelength to develop a color; a photothermal conversion layer that is laminated closer to an incident side of the light than the first color developing layer, transmits visible light, and absorbs the light for photothermal conversion; and a second color developing layer that is laminated closer to the incident side of the light than the first color developing layer, transmits visible light and the light, and develops a color by heat converted by the photothermal conversion layer.

An information recording medium according to one embodiment includes a substrate, a first image, and a second image. The first image is provided on the substrate, emits light when irradiated with first excitation light having a first wavelength, and includes phase-modulated first information. The second image is provided on the substrate, emits light when irradiated with second excitation light having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength, and includes phase-modulated second information.

Information recording medium and authenticity determination method

An information recording medium having a front surface and a back surface has a first color developing layer, a second color developing layer and a third color developing layer. The first color developing layer develops yellow at a temperature not less than a first threshold value. The second color developing layer is arranged at the back surface side with respect to the first color developing layer. The second color developing layer develops magenta at a temperature not less than a second threshold value that is lower than the first threshold value. The third color developing layer is arranged at the front surface side with respect to the first color developing layer. According to one embodiment, a laser recording device performs recording by irradiating a recording medium with laser light. The recording medium includes thermal recording layers including thermal materials with different color development threshold temperatures and stacked in an ascending order of the threshold temperatures of the included thermal materials from a surface irradiated with the laser light; and an intermediate layer provided between the thermal recording layers to perform thermal insulation and thermal conduction. The laser recording device includes a controller. The controller sets a power density of the laser light and an irradiation time and performs recording on the thermal recording layers by controlling irradiation with the laser light. The power density is relatively higher at recording of any of the thermal recording layers with a higher threshold temperature. The irradiation time is effectively longer at recording of any of the thermal recording layers with a lower threshold temperature.

A printing method detects a density of a first black image to be printed in a first black color; determines, when the detected density is equal to a first density, a size of a first character to be embedded in the first black image to a first size, and prints the first character at the first size in a second black color with a transmissivity at a near infrared ray band that is different from that of the first black color; determines, when the detected density is lower than the first density, a size of the first character to a second size larger than the first size, and prints the first character at the second size in the second black color; and prints a region except a region in which the first character is to be printed in the first black image, in the first black color.

A printed matter includes: a first sub image embedded in the main image which has the same color as a color of the main image in a human visual sense, and is printed with an ink to absorb light of an infrared wavelength band by a first absorption coefficient; and a second sub image embedded in the main image which has the same color as the color of the main image in a human visual sense, and is printed with an ink to absorb the light of the infrared wavelength band by a second absorption coefficient.

According to one embodiment, an image forming method includes recording in a first recording portion, on a first member of a data recording medium, a first portion of an image to be recorded in the data recording medium; recording, in a second recording portion, a second portion of the image on a bonding surface to be bonded to the first member, of a second member of the data recording medium which is to be bonded to the first member and covers the first portion of the image that has been recorded on the first member; combining the second portion of the image with the first portion of the image to form the image; and bonding the second member to the first member.

According to one embodiment, a printer includes a printing portion to perform printing using a thermal head, a first detecting portion to detect a first temperature that is a head temperature of the thermal head, a second detecting portion to detect a second temperature that is an ambient temperature of the thermal head, and a controller which reads, from a memory portion to store control conditions of the thermal head, each of which is determined for each of the head temperatures under the one ambient temperature, the control condition corresponding to an effective head temperature based on the first temperature and the second temperature, and controls the thermal head in accordance with the relevant read control condition.
