A projection system includes a projection device configured to simultaneously project a first image light for a first image and a second image light for a second image; an eyeglass-type device which is to be worn by a user and configured to include a first optical module configured to transmit the first image light projected by the projection device and a second optical module configured to transmit the second image light projected by the projection device; and at least one light source unit configured to emit a source light of wavelengths that are in a visible light band and have a transmittance equal to or less than a predetermined value in both the first optical module and the second optical module.

A display device includes a plurality of display elements, a first light source that emits first illumination light, a second light source that emits second illumination light, a signal synthesizing unit configured to generate a mixed image signal based on an input signal, a pixel control unit configured to, based on the mixed image signal, control a voltage applied to the display elements, and a light source control unit configured to control the first and second light sources. During period in which the second illumination light is emitted, the pixel control unit is configured to control a voltage applied to some display elements of the plurality of display elements according to signal value of the input signal and at same time, regardless of signal value of the input signal, set a voltage applied to some other display elements of the plurality of display elements to a constant value.

Display device, and control method for display device

Divided periods by dividing a frame of a video signal are produced. A display element is ON-OFF controlled on a pixel-by-pixel basis according to a video signal in accordance with the divided periods preassigned to each gradation. The light amount of a light source for emitting light to the display element is controlled so that a first light amount in a first divided period corresponding to the lowest gradation except black display becomes a light amount lower than a second light amount in a second divided period other than the first divided period.

When gradation of a mixed video signal is equal to or less than a predetermined gradation, a subframe data generator generates subframe data so that an applied voltage to a display element is turned off during a first predetermined period from a start of the frame of a video signal for a visible light image or a video signal for an infrared light image. A light source controller turns on a visible light source after a lapse of a second predetermined period from a start of the frame of the video signal for a visible light image, and turns off the visible light source at the timing when the frame of the video signal for a visible light image is ended.

A storage device stores dither patterns composed of three-dimensional block consisting of the number H of dots in a horizontal direction&#xd7;the number V of lines in a vertical direction&#xd7;the number F of frame directions. Each value from a minimum value to a maximum value of dither values of n bits is written in each address of the storage device corresponding to each dot. When each value is written into the storage device, processing of obtaining a spatiotemporal density value indicating a degree of density of an address in which a dither value has already been written in a predetermined three-dimensional area centered on each of the addresses in which a new dither value is writable, and processing of selecting an address having the smallest spatiotemporal density value among the addresses in which a new dither value is writable and writing a dither value are repeated.

A control device is a control device that controls, based on an image signal for display of an image for each frame period, driving of a liquid crystal display apparatus, and the control device includes: a period dividing unit that divides a frame period into a first period and a second period later than the first period; a signal calculating unit that calculates, based on the image signal, a first signal value and a second signal value for driving of a liquid crystal element of the liquid crystal display apparatus; and a liquid crystal driving unit that drives the liquid crystal element with the first signal value in the first period, and drives the liquid crystal element with the second signal value in the second period.

Control device and liquid crystal display apparatus

A display device includes a display pixel unit and a signal processing unit. The display pixel unit includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a horizontal direction and a vertical direction. The signal processing unit determines a correction value corresponding to a target pixel based on differences between gradation data of the target pixel and gradation data of peripheral pixels disposed in the horizontal direction, the vertical direction, and an oblique direction with respect to the target pixel, respectively, among the plurality of pixels, increases or decreases a pixel value of the target pixel based on the correction value, and corrects the gradation data of the target pixel to reduce the differences.

A drive gradation table is configured as follows. The number of subframes turned to a drive state is increased each time drive gradations are increased. When all of the subframes are divided into a plurality of subframe groups including a plurality of continuous subframes, as gradations are increased, subframes turned to the drive state are increased in order from the latest subframe group to the earliest subframe group among the plurality of subframe groups. In each of the subframe groups, the subframes turned to the drive state are increased in order from the earlier subframe to the later subframe.

In a display element, each pixel is controlled to an ON state and OFF state in accordance with a video signal. Each pixel of the display element is controlled to an OFF state in a first period shorter than a predetermined frame period, the first period including at least one of a front end and a rear end of the frame period of the video signal. In addition, light emission of a light source that emits light on the display element is stopped in a second period including the first period.

Display apparatus and method for driving display apparatus

A projection display apparatus has a beam controller provided on the optical axis of an optically-modulated linearly-polarized beam, to allow the beam to travel therethrough to reach a screen or cut off the beam, under control by a control signal. The controller, has driving zones on which the beam is incident. The zones are provided in a direction corresponding to a vertical scanning direction of pixels of a liquid crystal display device installed in the display apparatus, for optically modulating a linearly polarized beam. The controller is driven per driving zone in a specific zone order at a timing of vertical scanning of the pixels under control by the control signal generated based on a vertical synchronization signal detected from the input signal. The optically modulated beam is allowed to travel through the controller or cut off when incident on the zones at the timing of the vertical scanning.
