The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for measuring axial clearance of a wheel bearing device, with which it is possible to make a high-precision measurement of negative axial clearance. This method comprises: a step (S) for press-fitting an inner race (); a first negative axial clearance measurement step (S); a swaging step (S); an inner-race press-in amount measurement step (S); a first inner-race outer-diameter increment measurement step (S); a second inner-race outer-diameter increment calculation step (S); an outer-diameter increment difference calculation step (S); a first axial clearance decrement calculation step (S); a second axial clearance decrement calculation step (S); a third axial clearance decrement calculation step (S); and a second negative axial clearance calculation step (S).

Method for measuring axial clearance of bearing device for vehicle wheel

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member and double row rolling elements. A wheel mounting flange is integrally formed on a driving side of the inner member for mounting a wheel via a brake rotor. Through apertures are formed on the wheel mounting flange. Hollow pins, having a chamfered portion, are press-fit into the through apertures. The brake rotor is formed with insert apertures to receive the pins, at positions respectively corresponding to the hub bolts and pins. The brake rotor can be temporarily mounted on the wheel mounting flange by inserting or press-fitting the chamfered end sides of the pins into the insert apertures.

Wheel bearing apparatus for a vehicle

A wheel speed detecting apparatus incorporating a wheel speed detecting apparatus has an inner ring axially secured on a wheel hub. A protecting cover, with a substantially dish-shaped configuration, is press-formed from a non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel sheet. The cover includes a cylindrical fitting portion adapted to be fit onto the outer member. A disc-shaped shielding portion extends radially inward from the fitting portion. A bottom portion extends from the shielding portion, via an inclined portion, to close the inner side end of the inner member. The protecting cover is positioned to abut against a stepped portion formed on the end face or the inner circumference of the outer member.

Wheel bearing apparatus incorporated with a wheel speed detecting apparatus

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member double row rolling elements, and a constant velocity universal joint. A wheel hub of the inner member and an outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint are axially separably connected. The outer joint member shoulder portion abuts against a caulked portion of the wheel hub. A cap is interposed between the caulked portion and the shoulder portion. The cap is press-formed from a steel plate and has a surface roughness of 0.63 Ra or less.
