A first pigment made of a coloring pigment having a primary average particle diameter of 200 nm or smaller or, or made of carbon black having an average particle diameter of a structure of 100 nm or smaller, and a second pigment made of barium sulfate having a primary average particle diameter of 55 nm or smaller are combined so that a value of (acid amount-base amount) of one pigment becomes positive, and a value of (acid amount-base amount) of other pigment becomes negative, and the combined first and second pigments are dispersed in a medium in the presence of a pigment dispersant.

Clear coating for top coating of automobiles, method of forming multilayer coating and automotive body

A coating composition is disclosed, comprising from 50 to 80 parts by weight of an acrylic resin having a number-average molecular weight of from 1,800 to 8,000, a hydroxyl value of from 60 to 120, and an acid value of from 1 to 25 and from 50 to 20 parts by weight of a hardener consisting of blocked aliphatic polyfunctional isocyanates and/or blocked alicyclic polyfunctional isocyanates and an alkyl-etherified melamine resin, the proportion of said melamine resin to said isocyanates being from 50/50 to 95/5 by weight. And a coated article comprising the above coating composition and a method to form the coated film and the coated article are disclosed.

Coating composition

The clear coating composition includes (a) an acrylic resin having a number-average molecular weight of 2500-10000 and a hydroxyl number of 70-120, and containing 20-40 parts by weight of styrene and/or its derivative, based on 100 parts by weight of acrylic resin-constituting monomers (solid basis); (b) a polyester resin having a number-average molecular weight of 350-1500 and a hydroxyl number of 150-300; (c) a mixture of (i) an alkyl ether-substituted melamine resin containing 5 or more alkyl ether groups per each triazine ring; and (ii) a melamine resin containing 1.1-3 imino groups per each triazine ring, a weight ratio of the component (i) to the component (ii) being 8/2-5/5; (d) an acid catalyst blocked with an amine having a boiling point of 150.degree.-280.degree. C.; and (e) a blocked isocyanate, weight ratios of the components being (a)/(b)=100/0-60/40; and (c)/(e)=100/0-33/67.

Clear coating composition and method of producing same

Multilayer metallic coating is formed on a substrate by applying a base coating composition containing a metallic pigment, applying a clear top coating composition on the base coating wet-on-wet, and curing both coatings simultaneously. The coating compositions contain a film-forming polymer having a plurality of crosslinkable function groups, a crosslinker an organic liquid diluent, internally crosslinked polymer microparticles and an organic acid catalyst masked with an organic base capable of accelerating the crosslinking reaction between the film-forming polymer and the crosslinker.
