Method and device for manufacturing separator for polymer electrolyte fuel cell

A material to be formed, which is uncoiled by an uncoiler from a coil while controlled against meandering, is adjusted in inclination angle by an approach angle adjuster and guided into a separator-forming mill. The material to be formed is introduced and pressurized between rolls in the mill so as to continuously form a separator. The separator formed by the mill is discharged and tension controlled by a pinch roll device with opposite widthwise ends of the separator being pinched. The separator discharged by the pinch roll device is cut without stopping the same by a flying shear at portions with no passages formed.

Method and facility for producing separator for use in polymer electrolyte fuel cell

A cell electrode plate is constituted by band-like core member made of metal foil and a plurality of sheets of electrode active material applied discontinuously on and longitudinally of at least one of upper and lower surfaces of the core member, the mutually adjacent sheets of the electrode active material having mutually different end positions widthwise of the core member. Thereby, an increase in worn amount of surfaces of press rolls is prevented when the cell electrode plate is pressed by a roll press machine with the press rolls so as to prolong the service life of the press rolls. Thus, the number and/or amount of grinding the press rolls is reduced to reduce the roll maintenance cost and enhance production efficiency.

Even when a cell electrode plate with broader width is press formed to enhance bulk density of electrode active material, it is made possible to positively and reliably provide a high-quality cell electrode plate with good productivity. From upstream to downstream in a travel direction of a cell electrode plate including a core member with electrode active material applied thereon, an uncoiler, a tension applicator, a four-high mill type roll press device, a thickness detector, a tension applicator and a coiler are arranged in the order named.

A cell electrode plate in which at least one of opposite widthwise ends of longitudinally discontinuous exposed portions with no coatings made of electrode active material on a core member made of metal foil includes pass-by transition portions for press rolls, the transition portions having a thickness substantially the same as that of the coatings. A rolled plate joining apparatus for joining rolled plates by cutting one surface of the tailing end of a preceding rolled plate and the other surface of the leading end of a succeeding rolled plate while traveling in the width direction and by overlapping the resulting cut surfaces to be joined. The joining apparatus includes machining apparatuses each having a cutter for cutting the undersurface of the tailing end and the upper surface of the leading end, a traversing apparatus for running said machining apparatuses in the plate width direction to move said machining apparatuses to waiting positions outside of the plate width, and cutter cooling apparatuses provided in said waiting positions for cooling said cutters.

There is provided a rolled plate joining apparatus equipped with a truck that can travel reversibly in the rolling direction, tailing end pinch rolls that are mounted on the truck and can be moved vertically with the tailing end of a preceding rolled plate pinched horizontally, leading end pinch rolls that are mounted on the truck and can pinch horizontally the leading end of a succeeding rolled plate, machining apparatuses for cutting one surface of the tailing end of the preceding rolled plate and the other surface of the leading end of the succeeding rolled plate, and a pressure welding apparatus for compressing the preceding rolled plate and the succeeding rolled plate with the machined surfaces of the preceding rolled plate and the succeeding rolled plate overlapped to reduce them approximately to the thickness of the rolled plates, including a tailing end centering apparatus placed between the tailing end pinch rolls and the pressure welding apparatus for pressing the opposite width ends of the tailing end of the rolled plate to align the center line of the rolled plate with the center line of the joining apparatus in the rolling direction and a leading end centering apparatus placed between the pressure welding apparatus and the leading end pinch rolls for pressing the opposite width ends of the leading end of the rolled plate to align the center line of the rolled plate with the center line of the joining apparatus in the rolling direction.

The die changing apparatus for a plate reduction press machine, comprises an upper die support holder,and a lower die support holder,that are arranged vertically on opposite sides of a transfer line, and support holder guide rails,installed on the upper die support holder and extending substantially horizontally in the lateral direction of the transfer line, and an upper die,and a lower die,are mounted on the upper and lower die support holders, respectively using the rollers onto the dies, fixing devices,that fix the upper and lower dies on the upper and lower die support holders, respectively, die fastening members,which are placed on each side of the upper and lower dies, opposite each other in such a manner that they can be fastened to both dies, and a die changing mechanism that can move one of the die fastening members in a direction perpendicular to the transfer line.
