An object of the present invention is to, in an organic EL display device in which an initialization voltage is applied, extend the time period usable to write a video voltage as compared with the conventional art. In order to achieve this object, the organic EL display device includes a plurality of pixels each including an organic EL element; a plurality of video lines that supply a video voltage to each of the plurality of pixels; a plurality of scanning lines that supply a scanning voltage to each of the plurality of pixels; a unit that supplies a selection scanning voltage concurrently to an N number of scanning lines among the plurality of scanning lines, and supplies an initialization voltage to each of the plurality of video lines, in a k'th scanning period; and a unit that supplies a selection scanning voltage sequentially to the N number of scanning lines, and supplies video voltages to each of the plurality of video lines, in (k+1)th through (k+N)th scanning periods respectively. N is an integer of 2 or greater (2&#x2266;N) and k is any positive integer.

Organic EL display device

A display device allows an optimal display mode to be selected in accordance with the form of use, so that the total power consumption is decreased. The display device includes an organic EL display panel for displaying a monochromatic image; and a color shutter glass unit including a pair of shutters. The pair of shutters are each controllable to be in a light transmissive state for a first color, a second color and a third color or in a light non-transmissive state. The pair of shutters corresponding to left and right glasses are each controllable in synchronization with display of an image on the organic EL display panel, so that one of a monochromatic image display mode, a color image display mode, a monochromatic three-dimensional image display mode, and a color three-dimensional image display mode is selected.

A display device is provided with an image processing circuit that outputs a pixel value of each pixel to a pixel driving circuit, the pixel driving circuit that inputs a pixel voltage to each of pixels based on the pixel value of each of the pixels, and a control circuit that detects a defective pixel. Here, the image processing circuit corrects the pixel value of the defective pixel in the image data to be displayed which is input to the image processing circuit, to a pixel value for black, and then outputs each pixel value of the image data to be displayed in which the pixel value of the defective pixel is corrected to the pixel value for black, to the pixel driving circuit.

Disclosed is an optical disc apparatus that sets a plurality of virtual zones, which correspond to a plurality of zones that are arranged in the radial direction of an optical disc, for a plurality of recording layers of the optical disc. When a servo signal distortion is detected in a virtual zone to change the rotation speed of the optical disc to a low speed in the virtual zone during an information recording or reproduction operation relative to a first recording layer, the optical disc apparatus stores the change information. When a recording or reproducing operation is to be performed in a virtual zone of a second recording layer, which is in the same disc radial position as the virtual zone of the first layer, the optical disc apparatus changes the rotation speed of the optical disc for the virtual zone to a low speed in accordance with the change information.

An optical disc apparatus, as a learning operation before a recording or reproducing operation, rotates an optical disc at a first speed to read PID information, discriminates between lands and grooves of the optical disc, detects switching positions between lands and grooves, sets a rotation angle position of tracking pull-in of an objective lens of a time length that allows the PID information to be stably read, with respect to the switching position, and stores the set position information of tracking pull-in as learning result information. During recording or reproducing, the optical disc apparatus rotates the optical disk at a second speed higher than the first speed, pulls in the objective lens for tracking based on the stored position information of tracking pull-in, reads PID information, and performs the recording or reproducing operation while discriminating between lands and grooves and detecting switching positions between lands and grooves.

Optical disc apparatus and access control method of the same

In an optical disc device employing a CLV method, executing pickup return processing when focus drop occurs during recording poses problems of increased waiting time for rotation and increased focus servo recovery processing time. When defocusing occurs and focus pull-in cannot be achieved by retry, a first rotation frequency at a radial position thereof is calculated. Next, a second rotation frequency at the innermost circumferential position at the current speed is calculated. Next, a third rotation frequency at a radial position where recording is restarted after focus servo recovery is calculated. Next, a fourth rotation frequency at pickup return position at a different speed is calculated. Next, based on the relationship among the first to fourth rotation frequencies described above, a rotation speed at pickup return is selected so that a rotation frequency difference becomes the smallest in all conditions: at pickup return from defocusing, servo recovery after pickup return, and access operation after the servo recovery.

A display device includes a plurality of gate lines, at least one data line, and a plurality of pixels connected to the plurality of gate lines and the at least one data line. The display device is configured to perform a first step of sequentially selecting N lines of the plurality of gate lines, and sequentially outputting N times display signals to the data line, and to perform a second step of selecting Z lines of the plurality of gate lines at one time, and outputting one time a blanking signal, where N and Z are natural numbers at least equal to 2. An optical disk apparatus and an optical disk recording and reproducing method are provided in which an actuator can be controlled in stable fashion at the time of high-speed recording operation. Before performing the high-speed recording operation under servo control of average type, the learning of a servo signal of average type by application of a disturbance signal is carried out for both the servo control of continuous servo type for reproduction and the servo control of sample-and-hold type for low-speed recording operation. Based on the result of the learning, the gain is set for a servo loop of average servo type for high-speed recording operation.

Optical disk apparatus and an optical disk recording and reproducing method

A display device of the present invention prevents the deterioration of display quality even when input video data are changed. In a matrix type display device, lines of video data are inputted to the data driver circuit one after another for every horizontal scanning period of the video data. The data driver circuit alternately repeats (i) a first step for generating a display signal corresponding to each one of the lines of the video data one after another for every fixed period and outputting the display signal to the pixel array N-times (N being a natural number equal to or greater than 2) and (ii) a second step for generating a display signal which makes the luminance of the pixels lower than the luminance of the pixel in the first step for the fixed period and outputting the display signal to the pixel array M-times (M being a natural number smaller than N). The scanning driver circuit alternately repeats (i) a first selection step for selecting the plurality of pixel rows for every Y rows (Y being a natural number smaller than the N/M) sequentially from one end to another end of the pixel array along the second direction in the first step and (ii) a second selection step for selecting the plurality of pixel rows other than the pixel rows (Y&#xd7;N) selected in the first selection step for every Z rows (Z being a natural number not smaller than N/M) sequentially from one end to another end of the pixel array along the second direction in the second step. Further, the outputting of N pieces of display signals in the first step and the outputting of M pieces of display signals in the second step are performed in response to periods which are obtained by evenly dividing the N-pieces of the horizontal scanning periods which are sequentially outputted into (N+M) pieces of periods.

A data driver of a display device alternately repeats a first step of sequentially generating a display signal corresponding to each one of the lines of image data for a fixed period and outputting the display signal to a pixel array N-times and a second step of generating a display signal which makes the luminance of pixels lower than the luminance of the pixel in the first step for the fixed period and of outputting the display signal to the pixel array M-times. A scanning driver circuit alternately repeats selecting a plurality of pixel rows for every Y rows sequentially from one end to another end of the pixel array along the second direction in the first step and selecting the plurality of pixel rows other than the pixel rows (Y&#xd7;N) sequentially from one end to another end of the pixel array for every Z rows along the second direction.
