In this invention, wireless video telephone communication between mobile telephones MSand MSusing the MPEG-2 standard is performed when the reception field strength falls below a threshold value of H continuously for a specific period of Tor longer in the course of receiving the data at one mobile telephone MS, the telephone MSmonitors the restoration of the reception field strength. After detecting the restoration, mobile telephone MStransmits a request for the transmission of an I frame to mobile telephone MS. Upon receipt of the request, mobile telephone MScreates an I frame in place of a P frame and transmits the I frame.

Texts including required message are entered with a small number of keys such as those of a cellular telephone. In this case, a conversion table is unnecessary and the number of key operations is reduced. Character input device and method

There is disclosed a multimedia communications terminal capable of quickly connecting with the other party with less burden on the exchange station. The terminal has a phone book memory for storing a phone book database and image data. One record consists of a phone book memory number, a phone number, a name, an encrypting flag, a terminal kind number, a send/receive YES/NO flag, a sender information notice flag, and an address at which image data is stored. The terminal further includes a main controller including a CPU, a ROM, and a RAM. The main controller controls all the portions of the terminal to realize the operation of a portable videophone. When an outgoing call is made, the phone book memory is referenced. The outgoing call is made in connection procedures adapted for the kind of the other party.

Terminal and system for multimedia communications

The present invention concerns a coordinate input device for entering coordinate values by superposing on a display device (LCD or CRT). The device is comprised of a coordinate input section wherein a first conductive sheet for x-coordinate detection provided with electrodes on a pair of end edges and a second conductive sheet for y-coordinate detection provided with electrodes on a pair of end edges are superposed through a spacer so that respective electrodes intersect orthogonally. In a low power consumption mode of operation; a predetermined voltage is applied between one of the electrodes of the first conductive sheet and one of electrodes of the second conductive sheet for detecting a variation of the voltage. When the voltage varies the device switches, a predetermined voltage is applied between one electrode x1 of the first conductive sheet and one electrode y2 of the second conductive sheet. When the voltage does not vary, no current flows between the pair of electrodes x1, x2 (or y1, y2) of either of the first conductive sheet or the second conductive sheet, therefore the low power consumption is maintained.

Character input terminal device and recording apparatus

In a thermal printing apparatus, three consecutive image data items in the main scanning direction is sequentially extracted. When all the three image data items are at level 0 (indicating that no dot is printed) and at level 1 (indicating that a dot is printed), a printing density is determined to be 0 (indicating that no dot is printed) and 3 (indicating that a dot of the highest printing density is printed), respectively. When one of the three image data items is at level 1, the printing density is determined to be 1 (indicating that a dot of the lowest printing density is printed) when the printing density of the preceding printed pixel is any value other than 0. When one or two of the three image data items is or are at level 1, the printing density is determined to be 1 or 2 (indicating that a dot of an intermediate printing density is printed) according to the printing density of the preceding printed pixel. Thus, the printing apparatus is capable of printing image data without the degradation of the image quality, even when the image data whose resolution in the main scanning direction is higher than (e.g., three times as high as) that inherent to the apparatus is supplied.

Image data resolution enhancing apparatus

A thermal head comprises a plurality of parallelogrammatic resistors for generating heat formed on an insulated substrate made of, such as ceramics or alumina. The resistors are aligned at regular intervals, and one pair of opposite sides of each resistor are connected individually to lead electrodes. These opposite sides are equal to or longer than the other opposite sides, and an acute angle formed between each two intersecting sides is 45.degree. or less. The resistor is heated by various electric currents to record printing dots of various sizes.

Thermal head including at least one paralellogrammatic resistor

A thermal head is used on a thermal transfer recording apparatus which can record a continuous, fine line or curve by recording many dots, by a thermal transfer system, on a recording sheet. The thermal head comprises a one-dimensional array of heat generation element groups each comprised of a plurality of heat generation elements, such as heat generation resistors of, for example, a parallelogram, a diamond or an elliptic configuration, continuously arranged in a direction perpendicular to that in which recording is made on a recording sheet and lead electrodes connected adjacent to each other in predetermined positions, in which the longitudinal sides of the heat generation resistors are made oblique at a predetermined angle.

Thermal head and thermal transfer apparatus

A substantially rectangular insulating substrate is prepared. Next, pairs of lead electrodes are formed on the substrate such that they extend in parallel with regular intervals and slantwise with reference to the longitudinal direction of the substrate. The electrodes are formed by use of a lithography technology, including deposition and etching. Then, a resistor material is pasted on the substrate and the electrodes by screen printing, to thereby form a strip-shaped resistor extending in the longitudinal direction. Finally, a protective layer is formed on the resultant structure, so as to prevent the resistor and the electrodes from being oxidized or worn away, thereby completing the fabrication of a thermal head. In this thermal head, each of those portions of the strip-shaped resistor which are defined by a pair of adjacent lead electrodes serves as a parallelogrammatic heating resistor used for recording one pixel.

Method for manufacturing a thermal head

A thermal recording apparatus records image data line-by-line, using a thermal head having a linear array of heating elements. Each of the heating elements is shorter in the sub scan direction than in the main scan direction. To form an image of one recording line, the feeding of a recording paper and the transfer of ink onto the paper are repeated a plurality of times--for example, two times--using the image data for that line. The excellent thermal response of the heating element constructed as above, and the use of a plurality of recording operations for one recording line image formation, provides a uniform recording density distribution curve, so that the recorded image has high image quality and is substantially free from recording density irregularity. An additional recording control employed eliminates a nonimage part which will occur due to a varied recording speed.

Method and system for recording image data by thermal head

A thermal recording system is used as a recorder in a facsimile equipment or the like, and usually has a first operational mode in which picture data being read out at a pitch of M lines/mm is recorded at a pitch of M lines/mm and a second operational mode in which picture data being read out at a pitch of (M/n) lines/mm are repetitively recorded for every n lines at a pitch of M lines/mm. In particular, in the second operational mode of the system, activation time periods of a thermal head in the repetitive recording of every n lines are controlled to be sequentially shorter as the lines advance, whereby a recording time in the second operational mode can be reduced and the deterioration of the recorded picture quality can be prevented.
