A solid electrolytic capacitor includes an anode body formed with a dielectric oxide film, a laminate cathode provided on the dielectric oxide film, a cathode lead frame provided on the cathode, and an anode lead frame attached to a lead portion of the anode body. The laminate cathode includes a solid electrolyte layer, and a mixture layer of a mixture of silver flake particles and carbon particles provided directly on an outer surface of the solid electrolyte layer.

In a process and an apparatus for fabricating a solid electrolytic capacitor comprising a capacitor element including an anode member provided with a chemical conversion coating and an electrically conductive polymer serving as a cathode electrolyte and impregnating the capacitor element, an agitating station is provided between a mixing station and an impregnating station to have a mixture of a monomer and an oxidizer agitated immediately before the step of impregnating the capacitor element with the mixture to render the mixture uniform. The mixture can be agitated, for example, by an air injection nozzle disposed at the agitating station for injecting compressed air into the mixture. This affords solid electrolytic capacitors with diminished variations in electrical characteristics.

A solid electrolyte capacitor has a metal case 3 housing a capacitor element 1 and closed by a hermetic seal structure. More specifically, the case 3 has an opening closed with a seal plate 4 of nickel alloy. The capacitor element 1 has a pair of lead wires 15, 15 which are joined at their outer end faces respectively to lower end faces of a pair of lead pins 2, 2 by resistance welding. The lead pins 2, 2 are inserted through holes 41, 41 in the seal plate 4, with an insulating glass seal 5 filled in a clearance in each of the holes 41, 41 around the lead pin 2. The opening-defining edge of the case 3 and the outer peripheral edge of the seal plate 4 are joined to each other by resistance welding. Consequently, the capacitor retains high reliability over a prolonged period of time.
