A fuel vapor treatment apparatus is provided with a purging passage for introducing and purging fuel vapor produced in a fuel tank to an intake system for an internal combustion engine, a volume chamber located in the purging passage for enlarging a passage volume and a pump received in the volume chamber for generating a fluid flow in the purging passage.

Fuel vapor treatment apparatus

A fuel nature measuring device for measuring the nature of fuel stored in a fuel tank includes a measurement passage, a gas flow generator, a pressure detector, an concentration operator, a temperature detector, and a volatility calculator. The measurement passage has an orifice. The gas flow generator generates gas flow in the measurement passage. The pressure detector detects a differential pressure between opposite ends of the orifice. The concentration operator determines a concentration of evaporated fuel in the fuel tank based on the differential pressure detected when the opposite ends of the measurement passage communicate with the fuel tank and the fuel flows in the measurement passage. The temperature detector determines a temperature of the fuel in the fuel tank. The volatility calculator calculates a volatility of the fuel in the fuel tank based on the concentration of the evaporated fuel and the temperature of the fuel in the tank.

Fuel nature measuring device of internal combustion engine and internal combustion engine having the same

A concentration-detecting unit detects concentration of fuel vapor flowing in a concentration-detecting passage branched from a purge passage. The concentration-detecting passage communicates with a communicating passage of a canister. Air including the fuel vapor of which concentration is detected by a concentration-detecting unit is returned to the communicating passage of the canister. The fuel vapor is adsorbed by an absorbent accommodated in a accommodating chamber to restrict a discharge of the fuel vapor into atmosphere.

A pump generates a gas flow within a measurement passage having an orifice. A differential pressure sensor detects a pressure difference between both ends of the orifice. Switching valves are disposed in the measurement passage to create a first concentration measurement state in which the measurement passage is opened at both ends thereof and the gas flowing through the measurement passage is the atmosphere, and a second concentration measurement state in which the measurement passage is in communication at both ends thereof with a canister and the gas flowing through the measurement passage is a fuel vapor-containing air-fuel mixture provided from the canister. An ECU calculates a fuel vapor concentration by based on a pressure difference detected in the first concentration measurement state and a pressure difference detected in the second concentration measurement state.

Fuel vapor treatment system for internal combustion engine

A canister is connected to a fuel tank to adsorb fuel vapor vaporized in the fuel tank and includes a canister housing and a canister main body, which is received in the canister housing and communicates with the fuel tank at one end. The canister housing includes an atmospheric port and a filter chamber, and the filter chamber receives a filter and communicates between the other end of the canister main body and the atmospheric port, which in turn communicates with the atmosphere. The filter includes an active carbon part, an atmosphere-side unwoven fabric and a tank-side unwoven fabric. The active carbon part includes active carbon granules, which adsorb fuel vapor vaporized in the fuel tank. The atmosphere-side unwoven fabric and the tank-side unwoven fabric sandwich the active carbon part therebetween in a flow direction of air, which passes through the active carbon part.

Filter and canister having the same

A canister for a vehicular evaporative emission control system has activated carbon and heating means. The heating means heats the activated carbon particles. The activated carbon particles are characterized by the following properties. Pore volume is 0.28 ml/ml or more. Average pore radius is in a range of 10.5 Angstroms to 12.0 Angstroms. Particle diameter of the activated carbon is in a range of 1.0 mm to 1.6 mm. The activated carbon particles provide high performances on both of adsorption and desorption.

Activated carbon canister

A fuel adsorption layer formed in a canister is partitioned into an upper adsorption layer and a lower adsorption layer by a partition plate in which a heater is embedded. The relation between a heating value of the heater and thickness X of the upper and lower adsorption layers is set so that the temperature of a part closest to the heater heating face of the fuel adsorption layer is lower than a fire point of the fuel, and the temperature of a part farthest from the heater heating face is higher than the boiling point of the fuel. With the configuration, by heating the fuel adsorption layer by the heater, the desorption performance of activated carbon is improved, and almost all of the fuel vapors adsorbed can be desorbed.

Fuel vapor control apparatus

In an evaporative emission control system, when an engine is running, a negative pressure generated in an air intake pipe of the engine is introduced into a fuel tank through a negative pressure intake line. When the engine halts, a purge valve provided on a purge line connecting the intake pipe and a canister is closed and defines a closed space between the purge valve and the fuel tank. After the negative pressure in the fuel tank is introduced into the closed space and the closed space is maintained under a continuous and uniform negative pressure, the system starts a leak check. Because the negative pressure intake line is provided with a negative pressure maintaining valve, the fuel tank is maintained under the negative pressure when the engine is running.

Evaporative emission control system and method for detecting leaks therein

An evaporated fuel adsorbed by an adsorbing member of a canister is compulsively desorbed by driving of a purge pump and is introduced into an intake passage of an internal combustion engine. In this instance, intake pulsation of the intake passage of an internal combustion engine is introduced into a driving chamber of the purge pump and a partition is moved, so that the capacity of a pump chamber is varied. In other words, the purge pump conducts its pump operation by utilizing the movement of the partition resulting from the introduction of intake pulsation of the intake passage of the internal combustion engine, and a power loss can be thus reduced. When a pressure difference is small between the intake pressure inside the intake passage of the internal combustion engine and the pressure on the canister side, too, a desired purge flow rate can be secured in accordance with the operating condition of the internal combustion engine.

Evaported fuel processor and fault diagnosing apparatus therefor

A fuel vapor purge system has a canister and a pump on a purge line arranged between the canister to the intake passage. The system further has a sub-canister on a branch passage of the purge line. The pump is driven when the engine is stopped, and reduces an inside pressure of the system. The vapor discharged from the pump is adsorbed in the sub-canister, therefore, no vapor is emitted to the atmosphere. The controller checks a leak by monitoring the inside pressure after the inside pressure is reduced. It is possible to improve an accuracy of the leak detection since a leak check is executed when the engine is stopped.

Leak check apparatus for fuel vapor purge system

A fuel pump suctions fuel from a fuel tank and discharges it into a pressure tank. Then, the fuel pump suctions the fuel from the pressure tank and pressurizes it. Then, the fuel pump discharges the pressurized fuel toward an engine side through a fuel discharge pipeline. A pressure control valve is opened to communicate an inside of the fuel tank and an inside of the pressure tank when a pressure in the pressure tank becomes equal to or greater than a predetermined pressure. A canister receives activated carbons for absorbing vapor fuel from the fuel tank. A pressurizing pump suctions the vapor fuel from the canister and pressurizes it. The pressurized vapor fuel is then discharged from the pressurizing pump into the pressure tank, so that the vapor fuel is dissolved into the fuel in the pressure tank.

Vapor fuel processing system having canister for absorbing vapor fuel contained in fuel tank

A canister for use in an evaporative emission control system of an automotive vehicle is provided which includes a box-like casing, an inlet port formed in one end wall of the casing through which fuel vapors generated within a fuel tank are drawn into the canister, and a plurality of vapor-adsorbing passages each of which is filled with activated carbon and has a given length through which the fuel vapors drawn through the inlet port flow. The vapor-adsorbing passages are all arranged within said casing in parallel to each other. This arrangement allows the casing to be of a flat shape which facilitates easy installation of the canister within a flat space around a fuel tank.
