An object is to provide a wax composition for candles which is excellent in moldability in the production of the candles, enables the candles produced therefrom to be reduced in the bending and blocking, and which can be improved in releasability. A wax composition for forming candles, which comprises 100 parts by weight of petroleum paraffin wax and 0.1 to 0.3 parts by weight of a mineral oil, with said petroleum paraffin wax containing 97% by weight and above of a fraction which has 24 and above carbon atoms, having normal paraffin wax/non-normal paraffin wax ratios of at least 9 and having a melting point of 45 to 65.degree. C.

Wax composition for forming candles

Disclosed herein are water-based protective composition for coating films. The compositions contain (a) a water-based dispersion of copolymer particles having a number average molecular weight of from 2,000 to 20,000 and a glass transition point of from -10.degree. C. to +40.degree. C. and obtained by emulsion-polymerizing 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture consisting substantially of (X) 7-12 parts by weight of an .alpha.,.beta.-monoethylenically-unsaturated carboxylic acid and (Y) 88-93 parts by weight of at least one ester selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1-4 -alkyl acrylates and C.sub.1-4 -alkyl methacrylates; as well as specific amounts of (b) an ultraviolet absorber, (c) an antioxidant, (d) a thickening agent and (e) a surface active agent. They can form barrier coats having excellent removability, weatherability, water-proofness, heat resistance and coating-film-protecting property. Their preparation processes are also disclosed.

Water-based protective compositions for coating films and preparation

Disclosed herein are water-based protective composition for coating films. The compositions contain (a) a water-based dispersion of copolymer particles having a number average molecular weight of from 2,000 to 20,000 and a glass transition point of from -10.degree. C. to +40.degree. C. and obtained by emulsion-polymerizing 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture consisting substantially of (X) 7-12 parts by weight of an .alpha.,.beta.-monoethylenically-unsaturated carboxylic acid and (Y) 88-93 parts by weight of at least one ester selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1-4 -alkyl acrylates and C.sub.1-4 -alkyl methacrylates; as well as specific amounts of (b) an ultraviolet absorber, (c) an antioxidant, (d) a thickening agent and (e) a surface active agent. They can form barrier coats having excellent removability, weatherability, waterproofness, heat resistance and coating-film-protecting property. Their preparation processes are also disclosed.

Water-based compositions of the water-based wax emulsion type for protecting coating films are provided by emulsifying and dispersing, as essential components, [A] a disperse phase component and [B] an emulsifier component in water. The disperse phase component [A] is formed of (a) a petroleum fraction wax having a melting point of 50.degree.-90.degree. C., (b) an oxygen-containing wax having an oxygen content of at least 3.0 wt. % and a melting point of 50.degree.-85.degree. C., (c) an ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer having a number average molecular weight of 2,000-20,000, and (d) a higher fatty acid metal salt and/or a metal-modified hard wax. The compositions can form, without the need for a solvent, strong barrier coats which are resistant to rain, moisture, sunlight and air pollutants even under severe environmental conditions. After these barrier coats are used, they can be easily removed with warm water containing a small amount of a solvent or steam.

Water-based protective compositions for coating films

An aqueous composition for the protection of paint surfaces comprises [A] a solid emulsion component composed of (a) an oxygen-containing wax, (b) a polybutene and (c) a silicone oil; [B] a powdery emulsion component composed of (d) substantially white-colored fine powder of a silicon-containing inorganic material and (e) white-colored fine powder of a silicon-free inorganic or organic material; and [C] an emulsifier component.

Aqueous composition for the protection of paint surfaces

An aqueous composition for the protection of paint surfaces comprises an aqueous emulsion containing as essential components (a) an oxygen-containing wax, (b) an emulsifying agent, (c) a fine powder of an inorganic material having a silicon content of not less than 23%, and (d) a fine powder of an inorganic or organic material substantially free of silicon.

A wax emulsion is provided which comprises as essential ingredients (A) 100 parts by weight of a petroleum fraction wax having a melting point ranging within 40.degree. to 90.degree. C.; and (B) 3 to 20 parts by weight of an oxygen containing wax; said oxygen-containing wax being prepared by mixing 10 to 80 parts by weight of a petroleum fraction wax (I) having a melting point ranging within 50.degree. to 85.degree. C. with 90 to 20 parts by weight of a polyolefin wax (II) having a melting point ranging within 36.degree. to 120.degree. C., a number average molecular weight of from 310 to 1,000 and 5 to 50 double bonds per 1,000 carbon atoms to obtain a mixture, and then reacting 100 parts by weight of said mixture with 3 to 25 parts by weight of an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof under a condition for forming free radicals.

Wax emulsion

A process for preparing an oxygen-containing wax obtained by reacting a mixture of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon waxes with an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid thereby to prepare the oxygen-containing wax. In one embodiment, this invention relates to the oxygen-containing waxes so prepared.
