In a photothermographic element comprising a non-photosensitive silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, and a binder on a support, a latex of a polymer having a Tg of -30.degree. C. to 40.degree. C. constitutes at least 50% by weight of the binder in an image forming layer containing the silver halide, and the image forming layer or a layer disposed adjacent thereto or both contain a nucleating agent. The element on the image forming layer side has a film surface pH of 5.0-7.0. The element produces a low fog, ultrahigh contrast image and maintains ultrahigh contrast characteristics with a wide latitude under varying development conditions.

A direct-positive silver halide light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one pre-fogged light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the light-sensitive material comprises a specific onium salt compound in the emulsion layer or a hydrophilic protective colloid layer adjacent thereto. A method for forming a superhigh contrast image which comprises the steps of image-exposing a silver halide photographic material having a silver halide emulsion layer provided on a support, the layer comprising silver halide grains containing 50 mol % or more of silver chloride and 1.times.10.sup.-8 to 1.times.10.sup.-6 mol of a complex of rhodium, ruthenium, rhenium, or osmium per mol of silver halide, being spectrally sensitized so as to have the maximum sensitivity in the wavelength region of 750 nm or more, and further containing a hydrazine compound; and processing with a developer which contains a developing agent of a ascorbic acid type and does not substantially contain that of a dihydroxybenzene type, the silver halide photographic material being processed with the developer which causes less harm to the environment.

A development processing method is described, which includes the steps of (a) exposing an ultrahigh-contrast silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and (b) developing the exposed silver halide photographic material with a developer while the developer is replenished with a development replenisher, wherein the developer and the development replenisher each contains a dihydroxybenzene developing agent and an auxiliary developing agent exhibiting a superadditive property to the dihydroxybenzene developing agent, and both the developer and the development replenisher have such a property that an increase of the pH is 0.25 or less when 0.1 mol of sodium hydroxide is added to 1 liter thereof; the developer has a pH from 9.5 up to but excluding 11.0; and the developer replenisher is added in an amount of 225 ml/m.sup.2 or less.

A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide hydrophilic colloid emulsion layer, at least one light-insensitive hydrophilic colloid layer interposed between the support and at least one silver halide emulsion layer, and at least one hydrazine derivative selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the general formula (1) and (2) contained in the at least one of hydrophilic colloid layers provided in the same side of the support as that coated with the light-sensitive silver halide hydrophilic colloid emulsion layer: ##STR1## wherein their substituents are defined in the specification.

A silver halide photographic material is disclosed, which comprises a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer comprising silver halide grains sensitized with a selenium or tellurium sensitizer and having a silver chloride content of 50 mol % or more, wherein the silver halide emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloid layer contains polymer latex having an active methylene group. The silver halide photographic material provides high storage stability and less pressure marks.

Silver halide photographic material and method of processing the same

A silver halide photographic photosensitive material comprises an emulsion layer which includes silver halide grains having a silver chloride content of at least 50 mol % and containing a rhodium compound. The material also comprises, (i) a hydrazine derivative according to formula (1), (2) or (3) which formulas are shown and defined in the specification, and (ii) at least one compound selected from colloidal silica and polyacrylamide derivatives. The material further comprises a protective layer, the outermost layer of which has a dynamic friction coefficient is not more than 0.35. The material may be processed in a developer having a pH of at least 9.6 but less than 11.0.

Disclosed is a silver halide photographic material and forming an image using the same, containing a hydrazine derivative in the emulsion layer(s) or in other hydrophilic colloid layer(s). At least one silver halide emulsion comprises silver halide grains containing (a) from 1.times.10.sup.-8 to 1.times.10.sup.-6 mol, per mol of silver, of an iridium compound, and (b) from 1.times.10.sup.-8 to 1.times.10.sup.-6 mol, per mol of silver, of a rhodium compound or from 1.times.10.sup.-9 to 1.times.10.sup.-5 mol, per mol of silver, of a rhenium compound, ruthenium compound or osmium compound, and having a silver chloride content of 50 mol % or more, the emulsion having been color-sensitized with a sensitizing dye of the following general formulae (1), (2) or (3): ##STR1## The material may be processed with a stable developer to give a hard image having few 'black peppers'.
