A low-cost bright image-pick up lens of a small size is provided which is short in total length, wherein the angle of field is beyond 30&#xb0;; the angle of incidence onto the image pickup device is narrowed; and various aberrations are appropriately corrected. The image-pick up lens comprises, from the side of an object, an aperture stop, a biconvex positive lens, and a meniscus lens having a concave surface on the object side, and each of the lenses includes at least one aspheric surface.

For a positive lens having a convex surface on an image side thereof and a diaphragm provided on an object side thereof, the following conditions are satisfied when a surface of the lens at least on the image side is aspheric, a focal length is f, a distance from the diaphragm to a front surface of the lens is D, and a thickness of the lens is D: 0.2&#x3c;D/f&#x3c;0.8, 1.2&#x3c;(D+D)/f, and 0.4&#x3c;R/f&#x3c;1.0.

A data encoding system for encoding input color pixel data and outputting encoded data. The data encoding system includes a reference pixel generating device which outputs reference pixel data corresponding to the input color pixel data to be encoded; a predictor having a color order table which sets the color ranks of color codes for every reference pixel pattern, reads and outputs the color rank of the corresponding color code from the color order table on the basis of the color pixel data to be encoded and its reference pixel data; and an entropy encoding device which converts the color ranking data into encoded data and outputs the encoded data.

Data encoding and decoding systems

A data coding device codes input object color pixel data into coded data. The data coding device includes a parallel/serial converter that converts the object color pixel data composed of parallel data of multiple bits into serial data, a state signal generator that generates a states signal for each bit of the serial data and a prediction device which groups each bit of the serial data based on the state signal, and an arithmetic calculator that converts the color pixel data into coded data based on the data received from the prediction device. A corresponding data decoding device is also disclosed.
